Smith was making $106,000, Frey $95,000." - Greg Auman So according to you either Greg Auman or Jim Leavitt was lying. How about this? Leavitt never made a "matching offer". Maybe this information is for the public's benefit. Six assistants have left in two seasons. Maybe all is not what it appears to the public. 8-)

I know Rod has a young child, maybe he wants to spend more time with his child and wife. It is not easy working for Leavitt due to the hours. Leavitt does have some of the longest hours among the coaching ranks... he rivals Nick Saban among coaches that spend countless hours with their coaches. At Frey's age, that starts to make a difference on your quality of life (as much as some of us think USF football non-stop would be heaven). Hey... Leavitt isn't the easiest guy to work for... but the show will go on as Leavitt said. Frye will be missed... but hopefully we'll get some young blood that is as hungry as the assistants from years past. Best of luck Coach... see ya on the other side (and yes, we will harass your ass come game time!)

And yet, they all get to move on to jobs they want more so it works out for everyone. As long as we keep winning we'll keep having interest for our coaches and that's a good thing. Maybe at some point we'll be able to convince some of these coaches to stay, too.

Read a paper every once in a while and you'll see it under the transactions. Example, Jimbo Fisher going to FSU, or Joe Kines bouncing around the entire SEC for the past 20 years. Its jsut as bad in the NFL.

You can bet that the majority of coaches in ANY league want to be a head coach at some point. I agree that WVU is a better spot for him if he wants to move up faster. Frey is a great individual and coach. Good luck coach. Maybe we'll kick back some beers together at the Morgantown Bennigan's now.

Do USF coaches really spend more time than at other universities? I find it rather difficult to believe that Leavitt is some tyrant, and Rich Rodriguez is a great guy that doesn't require his assistants to do any work. RR wouldn't have the program where it is by taking it easy.

Easy, WVU's last OL coach Triplett, was just hired by FSU to coach their OL for an obscene amount of money. The OL job at FSU was one Frey coveted but they barely gave him a look. The WVU OL got the job and oodles of cash too, more than even WVU and their bonus money. That should say all you need to know of Frey's reasoning, that coupled with the fact he and Magee are like best friends. He will be missed, and believe it or not he'll have to put in long hours working for Rich Rod too, but at least there he gets big dollars, and even bigger bonus dollars that USF couldn't match- that comes from their alumni fund. The hours are always easier when you're getting paid more to do them and working with great friends doing it. No conspiracy, no problems. If Leavitt was so bad why would a guy as qualified as Gregory come coach for him, or Franks, or Douglass, or Burnham...it's just guys going on to better themselves which isn't hard to understand.
