USF needs 7 wins.  6 and we're out.   Even with 7, we may be out.  *, is the only guarentee.  With the Cinn loss, we have no credibility and would have to beat Pitt and Louisville/WVU to turn some heads. Here is how I see it:

BCS - WVU

Sun - Louisville

Meinike - Navy.  They were not happy with us last year.

Texas- Rutgers

International - Pitt (Pitt would travel well to Toronto)

Birmingham - Cinn

Bottomline is that USF does not travel well and the bowls will look for any excuse to invite someone else the travels better.  Bringing only 2,000 to NC last year really plays against us being invited.  For USF to go, the bowl will almost have to have no other choice or we need to upset PItt and a big team.  Hello 2007, Cinn and KU losses hurt big.

1. USF brought almost 5,000 fans to Charlotte, not 2,000.

2. Meineke was very happy with USF.  Most bowl committees do not want to invite one team two years in a row.

3. NCAA bylaws say that if you have a 7-5 team and a 6-6 team for the last bowl with a conference tie-in, then you HAVE to select the 7-5 team.  So, a 7-5 USF gets a bowl over 6-6 Cincinnati.  No need to upset WVU or UL - just beat bitt and Cincy.

Says who? We can still go with 6 wins and we'll certainly travel better than Cincy will, especially if it's to Birmingham.

says a lot of people on this board and it's getting annoying.  we can still make a bowl with 6 wins, but let's get 9 just for fun.

USF sold 5000 tickets and the Meinike Bowl was so happy that they ammended the contract to allow them to take Navy if the qualified.  USF did not travel well and that will play into who goes.  You can tell yourself that USF traveled well and the Meinike Bowl was happy with USF's 5000 in attendance and are being shut out in last years game, but your deluding yourself.

- USF's shutout couldn't have anything to do with a great NC State defense -- 3 of whom went in the first round of the NFL draft.

- They didn't "amend" the contract, they signed a new contract with the Big East and a separate one with Navy.  Navy's contract is for this season only.

USF didn't travel well compared to other teams, but you really should at least get your facts straight when trying to support your argument.

good grief.  cincy's attendance this year appears to be horrible (unless it was just sunday night that NOBODY showed up to) and they didnt send a single fan to a bowl game last year, so there's a decent chance we'd get picked over them (at 6-6).

I agree. At least if we're talking about the Birmingham Bowl here. I assume the International Bowl will not be too interested in the team which is farthest away from them, especially when we only took 5,000 to a state not half the distance to Toronto.

So now it's USF's fault that the Meineke Bowl put the deal in for Navy?  ::)
