The USF coaching staff needs to stop called runs (delays, and off tackle) for QB Matt Grothe.  They are going to get him hurt as the schedule becomes tougher in the BE.  He took some very hard and unnecessary shots today.  One shot did send him to the sidelines for several plays.  Running backs run, wide-outs catch and QB's throw in big time football programs.

If protection breaks down then run.  Other than that, please stop running him on called plays.  Even during PJ's few plays today he had called runs.  It needs to stop!

Go Bulls!

I agree with you. Ponton can do for him! Williams is getting better game by game.  My nails are almost gone! I would like MG to run when it is necessary

I'll agree with that.  I wouldn't say cut those plays out completely, but maybe just a few times per game.  He's way to valuable as a passer to risk an injury.  Every time I see #3 trotting in from the sidelines, I have horrible flashbacks of the last three seasons.

Especially in today's game.  Both our running backs actually ran better than Grothe so why even risk running him off tackle?  I don't think Grothe needed to run the ball at all today for us to win that game (except for any scrambling situations).  Physically he is still a RS freshman....too much risk of injury or wearing down.

No doubt breath is held everytime he takes off.  We have too much riding on MG to put him out there like that.  It was the same way with Marquel early and eventually, later in career, his legs were used to evade more than in designed plays.  With Pontin back and Williams adding support, I hope we see that part of the playbook tweaked and let our RBs keep the defenses honest.  Before now, there wasn't much to do so.

I think we need to stop running Grothe needlessly in some situations, but, because of the offense we run, you won't see any reduction in QB runs.  The QB run is a big part of the spread offense.  That's why we recruit a dual threat QB or an athlete at QB like Grothe rather than a prototypical, pro style 6-4 220lb QB.

I agree 84, but I am referring to when we have a commanding lead and we have Ponton ... that is when I think we should have changed it a bit.

while you guys are at it, go on WVU's board and tell Pat White to stop running designed plays because he's obviously rushing too much if he's getting 247 rushing yards like he did today.  We don't need them losing that BCS bid by him getting injured...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
