MikeG,

USF has not been at full strength for the entire year, yet you never get to read about that from the media. If USF had either Ponton or Plancher, I would feel better about the running game.

Wow, their QB situation sounds eerily similar to ours. Phenom freshman wins out the job over last year's starting senior. I could be totally over reacting here, but does anyone wonder if the KU coaches are reporting Meier's injury to the press to throw off S. Florida's expectations for which QB they will be using in our upcoming game?

8 int's and 2 fumbles in 3 games and you think they're throwing off USF about the injury.  Maybe they're trying to scare us by threatening to use the back-up who actually shows some prudence when he has the ball.

I saw the Toledo game, the pass Meier threw in the back of the end zone in overtime was awful.  Maybe it was his injury, but Kansas was on the five, he's got a big WR, and all he has to do is loft a pass deep in the corner.  That's mainly all arm, not a lot of leg from where he was standing...he throws this thing so pitifully short that the fact Toledo's DB didn't return the INT for a TD is almost silly (Jenkins would have taken it to the house)...  it wasn't even in the vicinity of the receiver.

It doesn't matter who they have behind center.  This game should come down to 3 things:

1. Will the running game show up?  This will be crucial as Kansas will look to bottle up Grothe...  If the RB's can take some of the heat off of him and keep the defense honest, look for Big Matt to light `em up.

2. Special teams... the punting situation is not good at the moment.  The Bulls need a good day out of the punters.

3. Mistakes/penalties...  it's been fewer and fewer in each game this season.  The Kansas game looks like an even matchup, so whoever makes the fewest mistakes will probably come away with a W.

Mangino has done this before Bien. Both QBs have very different styles of play it's probably a desparate attempt at thowing off the USF coaches.

Probably, but Meier was injured in the Toledo game.  It was brought up enough by the tv announcers that night.

Personally, Meier would be the guy I want to start.  I just don't think he's mature as a freshman, and seems to want to make to much happen on his own.  This could also be a subtle way the Kansas staff is trying to back out Meier from the starting role.  You really can't ignore 8 iNT's and 2 fumbles in 3 games...and at least 2 more against Toledo that should have been gone.   He's making bad decisions right now, not seeing the whole field, and trying to rely to much on his arm...his confidence is shot.

Mangino doesn't act in seperation. This is ararity for him to speak about ANY injuries. This article is missing a very important quote from mangino earlier in the week. "I expect Kerry to play".

So relax. Mangino's not so scared of mighty South Florida, that he's throwing curve balls in the media.

BTW. Barrman started about half of the games last year, and most of the games as a Sophmore. It's real easy to explain the descending playing time. He's very slow afoot. He's also afraid to throw the long ball, and then panics in important situations. Against Oklahoma last year he threw terrible looking interceptions deep in our own territory.

#1 seems a little wrong to me. Grothe will continue to run-- so we will have a running threat they have to be concerned with. But the KU pass defense has not been so hot so far. It would be nice to get some sort of production out of our RBs, but any run production might be enough regardless of where it comes from. We will be passing early and often in this game imo.
