Rams sign kick returner J.R. Reed, waive Hagans

By Bill Coats

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

09/04/2006

The Rams might have answered what coach Scott Linehan had described as "a big question mark" by signing a kick returner Monday. His name is J.R. Reed, and, because of a freak injury, he hasn’t played in a regular-season game in more than a year and a half.

Reed, a fourth-round draft pick from the University of South Florida, was Philadelphia’s primary return man in 2004. He averaged 23.1 yards – second among all NFL rookies -- on 33 attempts. He also collected 20 special-teams tackles and saw action as a reserve safety.

hope he shines.

and hope philly misses him ;)

I'm a big Philly fan, and I was a little surprised to see this.  I thought he would be backing up dawkins in place of mikell, but I thought wrong apparently.  Nevertheless, they couldn't afford (roster spot wise) to keep both.

The fact that he got insta-signed makes me feel better about the situation.  The Rams need him a LOT more.  T

he eagles traded the old center away to give him a chance to play as well.

Bucs could have used him. They need a spark at KR and some depth in the secondary. Would have been nice to see. Truly hope his knee is completely healed. Good luck JR

I think JR needs to find the right defense, and he will be a stud.  Until he finds it, he will be fine as a special teamer.  From what I remember of him, his playing ability would fit into the Bucs playing style.  It wouldn't surprise me if Gruden or Monte Kiffin gives JR a look.
