PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of South Florida’s Gabriela Duch and Neyssa Etienne advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2006 NCAA Doubles Championships Friday afternoon, defeating Kentucky’s doubles squad of Kim Coventry and Carolina Escamilla , 6-1, 6-0 at the Taube Tennis Center on the Campus of the University of Stanford.

USF’s No. 9 ranked tandem advance to face the winner of the Tiffany Clifford/Sarah Foster (Texas A&M) and Sara Anundsen/Jenna Long, UNC second round match. The match will be played on Saturday with the time TBD.

The entire match was dominated by USF, who fought through gusting winds to avenge an earlier regular season loss at the hands of the Kentucky team.

On Feb. 25, the Wildcat’s duo defeated Duch/Etienne in a 4-3 Kentucky victory in Tampa, Fla.

With the win, Duch and Etienne will both gain All-American status for the 2005-06 season.

This marks the first time a USF doubles team has received All-American Status since 1984.

“They (Duch and Etienne) played one of the best tennis matches I have seen them play,†said head coach Agustin Moreno.†“I’m happy to see such hard working student-athletes reach their goals and get rewarded with All-American status.â€Â

They play tomorrow afternoon, the last doubles match goes at 4 so they play between 12 and 4 Pacific time.

The NCAA sucks at giving times and information for these events.

it just so happens that it was the quickest match of the doubles tournament and the only match where a duo gave up one point.

I talked to them earlier and they are pumped, they want this!
