  1. ha! he was most likely visiting me at LVO. Oh the memories!
  2. Gload is the starting LF for the Ryoals on opening day
  3. anyone stop to think why he was fired? there has to be a reason. You just don't up and fire a coach who won 20 games and went to the tourney
  4. http://packers.aolsportsblog.com/2007/03/25/usf-already-in-mid-season-form/ USF Already in Mid-Season Form Posted Mar 25th 2007 11:10PM by Charles Rich Filed under: Big East, NCAA FB Campus, NCAA FB Police Blotter The South Florida Bulls only started spring practice a week ago, but once more USF finds players in trouble with the law and suspended from the team. Two University of South Florida starting defensive backs were arrested early this morning outside a Tampa bar on misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and obstructing or opposing an officer without violence and have been suspended indefinitely by USF coach Jim Leavitt. Senior cornerback Mike Jenkins, who turned 22 Thursday, and sophomore strong safety Carlton Williams, 21, were arrested shortly after 3 a.m. by Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies at Bobalouie's Pub, 1913 Bearss Avenue. They were released on $750 bond about 8:30 this morning. Apparently there was a crowd of nearly 200 outside the bar after it had closed around 3 am. Go figure a crowd that large, plenty of people who had been drinking and now without their booze. Naturally a large fight broke out leading to the arrest of Jenkins and Williams. Last off-season, the Bulls had several players arrested and suspended. Not to mention more then a couple academic casualties. Looks like not much has changed.
  5. It's amazing ... nobody shows up to a game, people complain .... people show up to a game, people complain. Just go to the game, have fun and then go on with your life. Root for your team and stop complaing. Nobody is ever going to be satisfied that's just how it is. Collin is right on the money. Baseball is a different sport from football or basketball. Baseball is a slower game that doesn't have as much action as football and basketball. Everything can't be like football. The songs that are played are tradition for baseball. Baseball is my favorite sport and singing take me out the the ball game never gets old. Just be happy that they played the "bull" for you and took your suggestion. From what I saw, it got people pumped up throwing the bull horns in the air. Be happy that there are people out there that care about this university and take peoples opinions into account. But just go out there and root for your team. The students were down the 3rd base side having a BBQ and leading cheers for everyone around them. Even though we lost, the thing they asked most is when can we do this again. Students are going to come out and watch the guys out there and support them.
  6. he's a good kid, smart also ... my brother is his science teacher right now at west boca. The coach there, Willie Dodardo, is a good coach, really cares about the kids there. he's the same HS coach as James Pinkney, ECU's QB Said he's excited to be going to USF and can't wait to get here
  7. I agree with what everyone says about Women's Basketball. Yes, it's a very hard sell because women's sports aren't as mainstream as the men are. Personally, i feel there needs to be more promotions for game beside wear your USF gear. Toss some money out there and have things like a discounted beer night or a Jose Fernandez bobble head night. I know that if you get people to show up for things like that, they stay for the game and get hooked. I think it's the only way to get people interested. You pretty much have to bribe people to go. It doesn't horrible to do something like that but what else is there? Who wouldn't want a Jose Fernandez bobble head?? Everyone doesn't have to go to ALL the games, but you can just check out the schedule and attend as much as you can. Everyone knows that people have a lot going on in their life. I agree with Lau in the article, students need to come out to more games, but USF needs to give them more of a reson to make it out there. I'm out there as much as I can and i will be until the day i move away from Tampa. You gotta spend money to make money right? Poney up for some USF towels to give away. People love that crap. Those girls work hard and they deserve to be supported. I know everyone on this board would make it out there but people on this board aren't the problem. It's everyone else not on the board that needs to get out there and boast attendence. If you attend anymore WBB games, i challenge everyone to bring a friend or 5 and report back and tell us about their experience at the game. IF they liked it, didn't like it and why. Lets see what other people have to say about this situation. I am upset i won't be at either of the games this weekend, but i'll be with family in Orlando so hold it down for me and GO BULLS! Rat
  8. yea, there was no sign of usf anywhere, even in the crowd. All i heard were seminole chops and cator chomps. Even the pirates were throwing blue and orange beads and yelling go gators. Kind of dissapointed in this whole thing. No sign of USF anywhere involved. And i was aware of everything going around cause i was very sober. What are your thoughts?
  9. My Pizza bowl memory was being able to watch it with my parents and brother who is an alum and my most cherished piece of memerobilia is a Kawika Mitchell game jersey
  10. yes they might be overrated when evaluating talent ... but as far as name recognition, the more we climb those rankings the better off we are so we shouldn't be complaining. I'll take a team full of 2 star selvie's and 3 star grothe's anyday! Just like in the replacements, we need HEART and those kids have it! "Pain heels, chicks dig scars, glory last forever!" <sorry i was watching the movie and i was inspired!> Rat
  11. who cares who wins, this has been a great game! I love college basketball!
  12. My ideal situation will be the dolphins signing Kawikaand taking Nicholas in the 3rd or 4th round to make a steller LB core of Crowder, Thomas and Kawika with Nicholas playing 3-4 sets! .... I'm a dreamer!
  13. Saban is at Alabama to stay. His heart is in college coaching. Just because he can't make it in the pros, doesn't mean he's not a great coach ... Suprrier, Carrol anyone?? He just missed bringing in the kids and teaching them to be great young men and then sending them off to the NFL and beyond. Like all the shows were saying, it's easier for a college coach because he brings in 20 or so recruits he hand picks every year and molds them into what he wants. Int he NFL, you get 6 picks a year and for Miami, the only guy he picked that was worth anything turned out to be crowder. One of the main reasons he left the Fins is because of his wife. She wasn't a fan of the Miami life and she's a small town person. Saban will have everything going for him in Alabama. I think he did the Dolphins a favor by leaving because i don't feel he had control of this team. He was a master of controling kids in college, but when it came to every aspect of the NFL, he couldn't handle it, their egos are just too big. Im rooting for him to do well in Bama and prove people wrong. I just want him to do it without Marve and Ford
  14. The band wasn't the only ones getting airtime ...

  16. i heard that alabama fans buy auburn season tickets and then give them to opposing teams fans for the game ... might want to check that out ...
  17. I think there were 7 sacks to be honest, there were 5 before the last 2 happened at the end. But we almost had more sacks (6 or 7) then papa john's comercials (10)
  18. Lay off Pinkney! How would you feel if it was ur senior year and you can't finish what you started 4 years ago? You rag on leavitt for crying on national tv after the WVU game? No. Leave the kid alone, im sure you have no idea the emotions he was feeling at the time. Way to go!
  19. Don't know if it was posted, if it is, take it off ... nice read http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061222/NEWS/612220408/1002/SPORTS Faith Took USF Player To Argentina By GREG AUMAN St. Petersburg Times TAMPA On special teams, the path Houston Hess typically chooses is a simple one: full speed ahead, directly toward an opposing kick returner. The path that brought him to USF is less straightforward. Hess is a freshman walk-on linebacker who leads the Bulls with 11 special-teams tackles. More impressive, he's 22 years old and playing football for the first time in nearly five years. "It's been a blessing for me to be able to go to school and do something I love to do while getting an education," Hess said. Hess was a three-sport standout at Oswego High in suburban Chicago, starring in football and basketball and as a pitcher in baseball. He had scholarship offers in baseball, but knew his immediate future was with his Mormon faith, which allowed him to take a two-year mission once he was 19. "It's something I'd always wanted to do," said Hess, who grew up in Utah. "I'd seen other people do it, cousins and uncles, and their experiences and testimonies gave me the desire to do it myself." In spring 2003, he left athletic uniforms behind for a white dress shirt and tie, and headed for Argentina. "A wild experience," he said. "A great opportunity, and I learned a lot, grew up a lot. I was really humbled. "Showering with a bucket, washing my clothes, learning a whole different culture and language," said Hess, who now speaks fluent Spanish. "It's amazing to see the people and how they live. They're the happiest people in the world, even though they have nothing." He finds daily reminders of his mission in the little things that transcend both parts of his life. "Every time I put on a pair of sandals, I think of Argentina," he said. "There, you don't walk around barefoot. I always had to wear sandals, in the shower, wherever I went. So now, when I put on sandals, the first thing that comes to mind is the mission." When his mission ended in spring 2005, Hess had planned to walk on in baseball at Illinois. His family had moved to Florida, however, so he had his doubts - he had been away from them for two years, so did he want to leave again for college? His sister, Lyndsie, had written him about USF, where she was enrolled and was on the Sun Dolls dance team that performs at athletic events. His parents attended games to watch Lyndsie, but also left impressed with Bulls football. "They saw how fun the games were, so I decided to come home and give football a shot," said Hess, who earned a spot on the Bulls roster, redshirted the 2005 season and made his debut this fall. "He's a great kid, works his tail off," coach Jim Leavitt said. "He's done a great job for us on special teams." Hess learned a new position at USF. He played free safety in high school, but his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame was better suited for outside linebacker. His contributions have been on special teams, but he has earned the respect of the team's senior linebackers, Stephen Nicholas and Patrick St. Louis. "Hess goes out there and works hard every day in practice," St. Louis said. "He does what the coaches ask of him, never complains. He's a key contributor on special teams, and here, that's the first place you get a real shot at playing. My first year, I never played (linebacker) in a game, but I played special teams." Hess, who had four special-teams tackles in USF's upset of then-No. 7 West Virginia last month, said he picked up his work ethic and commitment on his mission. Hess, as a freshman, is older than St. Louis, and has more maturity than most first-year players, even if there's good-natured ribbing from younger teammates. "I get made fun of for my age around here. They wonder if I got held back in school," Hess said. "I'll be around here a while, so I'll be an older one of the bunch. But it was worth it, the decision I made to do the mission. Well worth it."
  20. All i have to say is who cares about the number of people who were there, how bout we care that someone took the time to put a great event together and people showed up! There was media coverage and things went well! Fans, coaches and players enjoyed it! That's all that matters! The players know that people care about this team and in return, they will go out there and play with more emotion! Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was this football team. Every year it will get better and better! Rat
