Texas State has announced the addition of several newcomers who are transferring to the program in time for the spring semester.

Jan. 18, 2006

SAN MARCOS - With classes beginning at Texas State University, the Bobcat football program announced the addition of seven newcomers who are transferring from Division I-A programs as well as a junior college standout.

Enrolling at Texas State are Texas Tech wide receiver Jake Brown, Arkansas wide receiver Rick Culbert, Utah State wide receiver Cameron Luke, Purdue quarterback David Ramirez and Arizona State defensive linemen Mark Washington.

Also enrolling at Texas State are a pair of place kickers - Kyle Bronson who was the starting kicker at South Florida last year and Baylor transfer Drew Ireland.

Texas State has also announced the signing of Blinn Junior College defensive lineman Julian Humble who prepped at Converse Judson High School. Humble had 38 tackles and registered five quarterback sacks during his sophomore season. He was a part of a junior college team that was ranked as high as No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings and finished with a 7-3 record.

Brown was a quarterback at Ennis High School but moved to receiver while at Texas Tech. Culbert was a two-way starter at Vidor High School and spent two seasons at Arkansas, red-shirting his rookie year. Luke played both wide receiver and quarterback at Klein's Edison High School and is expected to be a receiver for the Bobcats after a season at Utah State. Ramirez, a Red Oak native who prepped at Grace Preparatory Academy, will be a red-shirt freshman at Texas State. Washington has two years of eligibility remaining after transferring to Texas State from Arizona State. He saw action in eight games as a freshman linebacker for the Sun Devils, registering seven tackles, including a quarterback sack. The Long Beach Poly product will play on the defensive line for the Bobcats.

National Letter of Intent Signing Day is Feb. 1.

I think we should move this to the "Tampa Bay Sports" forum. Since Mr. Bronson has made his decision to separate from USF, he's no longer fodder for this board.   ;)

Congrats to Kyle for getting that scholarship. I wish it could have been from USF though because I believed Bronson would have had a great kicking career at USF. Oh well, best of luck to Kyle.
