I think Bullman3's post was right on: "Create excitement and they will come."  It seems like most big money givers (as well as students) like to be associated with something exciting. And USF basketball is not very exciting right now.

It's almost a Catch 22, but I think the university is going to have to find a way to get a higher profile and better qualified coach - sorry Coach Mac fans. Better players will be attracted and maybe we could hope to be something more than the cellar of the Big East in basketball, without the "maybe we will be better next year" mantra that some dedicated fans love to hang onto.

The big money boosters and businesses in the community will want to have some visibility in a winning and exciting program that is drawing big crowds.

I can see that.

I can see where I'd want my corporate name associated with a winner.  There's a lot of us who would buy season tickets to basketball if we thought there was the chance that the team could be competitive on a regular basis. I'm certainly not a big basketball fan, but I'd spring for tix if I got something in return (on court production)

Too many years of losing makes it impossible for me to shell out for season tix. Sad but true.

I know Alumni who in the 80's and 90's choose to come to USF specifically because we DIDN'T have a football program.

I have to believe there are many of those out there also.

When I die ... I plan on making a contribution to USF Football.

Still need to discuss this with the Mrs.  :-*

Well technically you cannot make a donation to the football team. It has to be given to the athletic department.

When I go I'll make a bequeathment to the USF AthAssoc only if my ashes can be scattered on the OCS.  :)  Hopefully, there will be one by 2040.  Please don't change this into a OCS thread either!  >:(

But you can request where the donation is sent to/used for.
