I was suprises no one had said the Greenery (until Bien). Bobcat you need to know the Greenery. Cheap beer and enough screens to watch a game but it is all local college bar.

It's hidden on 42nd street caty corner to Fontana and behind the Quick Mart. Check out the slam dunk special but get the chili.

Quickest way to meet an underage coed without doing too much work. The Greenery is by far my favorite USF bar of all time. Never really had a chance to watch tv when I went there... but wasn't really there to watch tv anyways. A must for any new student for at least one full semester!

The best part of the Greenery is you can usually WALK home. The best night I had there we were too drunk to drive and walked to the bar :)

They're tearing down University Townhouse Apartments??!!!  No way!  That place is a USF Landmark.  I'm pissed.  I had the best year of my life that I've forgotten in those apartments.  That's it.  I'm chaining myself to my old apartment in protest ( think it was 1805?)  Quixote Blvd forever!

Yep, a big southern apartment builder is tearing down UTA, and building a modern complex, and is going to utilize all the space.  Also, the shopping center that the Greenery is in will get a huge face lift and will be incorporated more in the new look complex.

Also, across the street they are contemplating buying the land and building for sale townhomes.  There is also talk of building a high rise student housing building right next to Fontana to add more housing, although it will probably be independent of the University, who maybe buying Fontana soon.

Fontana is currently under USF ownership and I was under the impression that it was only temporary?  It is nice to see 42nd st getting a face lift sicne student traffic through there is very heavy.  The new apt's being finished now, Monticello (directly across from Cambridge woods) look very ncie and should be done soon.

83,

Then it must mean USF will eventually buy it for permanent ownership.  42nd street will get a new facelift, and it will look great.  This group only builds first class stuff.  They love the market, and contemplated making UTA a student housing exclusive complex, but they realized that the four hospitals, major new research center, and numerous medical personnel in the area could use a great condo/apartment complex next to the campus.  They think its a great market, and the barrier of entry is significant, with the closest new stuff available in the New Tampa Area, and the I-75 corridor.

Fletcher will also get a huge facelift soon, so this will eventually enhance USF, and make it more accessible, as there is talk of having a pedestrian bridge by 42st, that will go over Fletcher to make accessibility easier for students, and eliminate the worry as Fletcher expands.

This is just what I've been told, but this is a very reliable source, and I've talked to the President of the firm that bought UTA, and he told me all of this.  Trust me this group doesn't jump or move unless all of these are in place, and occuring.

the 42st pedestrain bridge/tunnel idea has been tossed around for a while... I know I heard stuff about that when I arrived here (fall 2001) and still hear rumblings about it every now and then.  Maybe the wheels are finally churning on that project as it would be a great asset and really make that area A LOT safer.  There are no telling how many times I see people running across fletcher or on their bikes just missing cars!

Im not sure what USF's specific title is over Fontana currently, but all signs have been switched to USF signs and all students in Fontana are considered on campus living students assigned through USF Residence Services or whoever assigns dorms.  I was told at somepoint that it was only temporary, which would be nice because Fontana is a complete dump!

It would be really nice for some nice condo/townhome to be in the USF area because it is much smarter to buy one of those instead of renting for 4 years!  The condo's in the immediate USF are are not the nicest places in the world and the nice condo/townhomes are in New Tampa east of 75 generally.  I would have loved to have bought a condo instead of having to rent an apt for the last couple years, but I could never find anything reasonable and close.  And living that close to the Greenery would provide unlimited opportunities for relizing the FULL college experience as discussed above  ;)  ;D

The best part of intramurals was going to The Greenery after the game, win or lose. The beer was cold and cheap.

Any of you guys ever go to CopperTop next CDBs?
