GAME DAY vs. Navy

USF will play at Navy for the third time Saturday and look for their first ever win while trying to end a 19-game road game overall and 13-game AAC road losing skid that dates to a win at ECU (45-20) in the 2019 season. The game will pit two first time head coaches and two of the conferences seven first-year head coaches at their schools. USF ended an 18-game FBS and 13-game AAC losing skid last Saturday with a dominating offensive performance vs. Rice that saw the Bulls score 42 points and gain 597 yards, the program’s most since the 2020 season.

BIRTHDAY BYRUM: Quarterback Byrum Brown, the reigning AAC Offensive Player of the Week, will turn 19 on Friday. With six starts under his belt as an 18-year old, his 18 TDs responsible for are the most-ever for a USF QB through six starts. He joined Quinton Flowers as the only Bulls to post 500 total yards in a game as his 517 vs. Rice rank third all-time at USF and are the most produced by an FBS player in 2023. His 435 passing yards in the game are the second-best USF total, behind Flowers’ 506.

DEFENSIVE PRESSURE: USF’s new defense under coordinator Todd Orlando has dialed up the pressure as USF ranks No. 5 nationally in TFL and No. 18 in sacks. The Bulls have posted three-straight games with 4 or more sacks and have logged 31 TFL in that stretch.

5-10 WEAPONS: Bulls 5-10 wide receivers Sean Atkins (24 catches, 215 yds, 1 TD) and Naiem Simmons (15 catches, 357 yards, 2 TD) rank among the top receiving targets in the AAC. Coming off a USF and state of Florida FBS player record 272 yards on 8 catches vs. Rice, Simmons is third in the AAC (28th nationally) with 89.25 yards per game, while Atkins is 4th in the AAC (29th nationally) with 6.0 receptions per game, having posted five or more in all four games on the year.
