GAME DAY vs. East Carolina

After back-to-back road losses at SEC (Florida) and ACC (Louisville) programs, USF will open the program’s 20th conference season and 10th in The American in a relocated game in Boca Raton. The Bulls will not a play a home game for a month, with the next contest at Cincinnati. USF will face ECU for the second time in an AAC-opener and will look to snap a three-game losing skid in AAC openers that dates to a Sept. 22, 2018 victory over the Pirates (20-13) in Raymond James Stadium. USF leads the series, 9-3, but has lost the last two meetings: 44-24 in Tampa in 2021 and 29-14 in Greenville last year. USF has lost its last two AAC openers on the road - at SMU (41-17) and at Cincinnati (28-7). This will be the first home AAC opener since a 48-21 loss to SMU in 2019. USF is 4-2 in home AAC openers, including downing Cincinnat (26-20) in 2013 in the Bulls’ AAC debut.

HURRICANE IAN: Due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Ian, USF moved the game to FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. FAU plays at North Texas Saturday, both programs are joining The American in 2023. It will mark the first-ever relocated game for the Bulls, though others have been delayed due to hurricane effects. The USF team moved to Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday and is practicing at the University of Miami facilities through the week. The game will mark USF’s first in FAU Stadium. The Bulls did defeat FAU, 35-23, in a road game played at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale in 2007. FAU Stadium opened in 2011. FAU head coach Willie Taggart, in his third year, led the USF program for four seasons (2013-17), leading the Bulls to three bowl games and program records for season wins in 2016 (11-2) and 2017 (10-2) and Top 25 finishes both seasons. Taggart departed for Oregon prior to the 2017 Birmingham Bowl, which USF won for the second straight season, posting victories over South Carolina (2016) and Texas Tech (2017).
