USFBulls12 Posted September 6, 2022 Group: Member Topic Count: 62 Content Count: 3,698 Reputation: 930 Days Won: 7 Joined: 03/17/2012 Share Posted September 6, 2022 (edited) Jeff Scott signed a 5 yr deal for $12.5 million in 2019 to coach 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, & 2024 (prior to extension). That is an expected MINIMUM of: 11 scheduled games in 202112 scheduled games in 2022~12 scheduled games in 2023~12 scheduled games in 2024~12 scheduled games in 2025 Jeff Scott's Salary is $12,500,000, for an estimated total of 59 scheduled games (plus, practices/ appearances/ recruiting). So far, his overall record through 22 games (2 canceled due to Covid) is *3-19* He is scheduled to be paid $211,864.41 for each of the 59 games. x 22 games played so far... Of the $4,661,017.02 of $12,500,000 we have paid him (in theory, so far) to coach 22 games so far, we have paid him: -- $635,593.23 to WIN -- $4,025,423.79 to LOSE ** My Question** Do you think a lucrative, creative, success-based pay scale could entice a renowned quality coach to come to USF who otherwise would never consider it? In this hypothetical scenario, USF offers the Head Coach $80,000 for a loss but $300,000 for a win. Record 0-12 = $960,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games 1-11 = $1,180,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games 2-10 = $1,400,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games 3-9 = $1,620,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games 4-8 = $1,840,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games 5-7 = $2,060,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games ------------------------------------------------------------------ BOWL ELIGIBILITY BONUS CAN BE APPLIED HERE ($200,000) 6-6 = $2,280,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 7-5 = $2,500,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 8-4 = $2,720,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 9-3 = $2,940,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 10-2 = $3,160,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 11-1 = $3,380,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 12-0 = $3,600,000 instead of CJS's $2,542,372.92 for 12 games + $200,000 Bowl Bonus 59-0 = $17,700,000 instead of CJS's $12,500,000 for 59 gamesPer Season Bonus Potentials: Bowl Eligibility Bonus: $200,000 per Season ($1,000,000 total) Conference Championship Win Bonus: $500,000 per Conference Championship Win ($2,500,000 total) College Playoff Appearance Bonus: $1,000,000 per CFP Appearance ($5,000,000 total) National Championship Bonus $5,000,000 per National Championship ($25,000,000 total)First 5 Year Contract **** TOTAL POTENTIAL EARNINGS (Perfect Record): $51,200,000 for 5 Perfect Seasons, 5 Bowls, 5 Conference Championships, 5 Playoff Appearances, 5 National Championships **** Bare Minimum Compensation (0-59 --> no wins, no bowls, no championships -- likely fired before end of contract): $4,720,000 x 5 years. Nick Saban's new contract pays him an average of $11.7 million per season to just show up. Our coach would need to be perfect and still not touch that total as an average, but this is only a first contract. I'm sure additional bonuses and extensions would be available, ya know, after our 3rd straight National Championship ... I like it though! Until the market stops paying coaches ridiculous amounts with payouts, nothing will change. You won't entice a coach as they can get that garunteed money somewhere even if they suck. Edited September 7, 2022 by Sk00b

If they're a top coach, not at all.

Most people do choose to take the lump sum during the big lottery payouts which is usually way less rather than waiting out the 30 year annuity (if they even believe they'll live that long) to collect the entire amount. Most would rather have a guaranteed lesser amount now than wait longer or work harder for more later.
