I'd also add his pitches per inning is much improved.

I remember that, however he is showing so much more now in terms of control and in durability.  He's a much better pitcher today.  Tip of the cap to the Rays and the power of the MLB.

Has to be a combo of coaching and maturing both physically and emotionally. He's added 4 or 5 mph to the fastball and his control is so much better. Think they mentioned that he's averaging about 15 or so pitches per inning. He seemed to be around 8 or 9 per batter while at USF. Nibble, nibble. Now he's challenging guys.

I don't know that he's added much velocity.  He has added another pitch and surely has matured as a pitcher and probably a person.  His stuff was filthy when he was here.  There was no "nibbling" just didn't always know where it was going.

Saw him pitch most of his home games at USF with the guys with the radar guns next to or just behind me.  He would occasionally hit 95 - 96. He's added velocity.

South Florida ace Shane McClanahan is the hardest-throwing lefty in college baseball, but he wants to make sure there's more to his story than velocity.

It was confirmed he hit 100 during fall of his RS sophomore year.  And he hit 99 twice against UNC his last year.  He may be a bit more consistently 96-97 now, but his fastball has always been his best pitch.  Command was the big issue

What is the most exceptional thing about him is being thrust into the role of staff ace at such an early point in his career. Others have wilted in that role, but he has embraced it and has shined. It isn't too early to start talking Cy Young at this point. His performance has been so consistently solid. Imagine if the Rays had a healthy Shane, Glasnow, and Baz to start the season? At this point, Shane is the main reason the Rays are clinging to the last wild card spot.

Dude is an absolute stud on the mound. We are lucky to have him. If he wins a cy young, how much more would it take to get him inducted in the USF Sports HOF?

I think it would take him returning to USF.

Didn't he win the conference baseball championship here or did he leave before? I don't follow baseball that much and remember he was a stud here. The only college sport I follow closely is football.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
