Amazing that nobody has worn 95 since 2016 - Matos certainty has some big shoes to fill (assuming that he makes the final roster for the fall)

Selvie was also 2 time consensus all-american. Not bad for a 1 star center from the panhandle.

Chandler was a pretty solid player.

Selvie may be the best player we have ever had. Must be the best defensive player, right?

Selvie was amazing. It was a true rags to riches story of good coaching and player development by building  an unknown player into a true superstar at the collegiate level. We have lacked that for a long time. Cjs amd his staff need to be the ones to do it and outshine all the other coaches since Cjl.

Groelinger was one of my tenants at some point a few years back, he always paid his rent. So, there's that

Other names that come to mind for best defensive player, also come from a ways back:

J.R. Reed

Anthony Henry

Stephen Nicholas

Mike Jenkins

JPP

I'm sure there are others to consider.  Selvie definitely earned more national accolades than any other.

There for a while we created a number of very good linebackers and defensive players overall...

Back in the days if you showed up at USF in between positions you were sent to the defense.

If you played QB in high school, and weren’t a D1 QB, you were sent to the defense or WR.

If you had real athletic ability you were sent to the defense.

Just the way it was. Not sure it would work in the current all offense game.

Good recruiting as well - CJL and his staff spotted a diamond in Selvie, where everyone else saw a rock.

CJL’s staff was the best that we have had with digging into the 3rd and 4th layers of recruiting to find the guys overlooked by the bigger programs.  Then, they put those guys into positions (at least on defense) where they could be successful
