Back in the day, USF had a long-range threat named Rob Rutledge. If the 3-point line was available then, Rob would have averaged 20+ ppl. Rob may have lacked some other parts of his game, but as then-Coach Lee Rose noted, “If you can put the ball in the hole, it covers a multitude of sins” They could use Rob today

I played Rob in pickup games back in the day.

’d start with it being a mostly stagnant, uncreative offense that doesn’t create shots.

I’d agree with that and add that Gregory also is a poor judge of talent.

We are pretty low in the pecking order, I mean look at the schools most of these guys came from.

Again it sounds so negative but I could trim that roster myself, right now.   I know some guys were speculating a few months ago that we had some good portal activity but I was hoping they knew more than me. They probably did. But looking so far at what I’ve seen this season it’s not encouraging.

Can’t be any lower than Hampton North Carolina A&T and Georgia Southern.

Do those teams have, what, eight guys from the portal or they just have one or two?

There are probably guys in the portal that should be left in the portal and you should be signing high school guys that can play eventually. I think the jury is out on some of these guys already.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
