He would have been conservative from his 25 yard line....  and Houston attempted passes on the three punt drives.

You don't know that he is not stupid he saw what he did when he passed

Nice try but we gotta continue our path to The AAC Championship and possibly the Fiesta Bowl.

I disagree with your take.

Fair enough I disagree with yours as well...but we are not on the field so it does not matter

It's not necessarily trusting the defense, it's hoping something good happens, maybe holding calls, maybe something else, but I am not a fan of giving up that field position.

In all honesty, if they have the hands team on the field, I'm kicking it deep, they won't have their blockers in. If they come out without the hands team, I'd try it, but in that scenario, I would kick it deep since they had all their Guys waiting for the on side attempt.

Well, I can look at what he did on the 3 previous drives.  He would not have decided to air it out suddenly... when all he would have needed is a couple first downs.  He would have had mixes of runs and passes... just like the previous drives.  He most likely would have placed a priority on burning clock over scoring again... as he had been doing all of the 4th quarter.

We've won 1 fbs game in 2 years, you should feel really good about that win.

The big problem there was the stupid penality

Maybe, but I also feel he would have passed it a few times. But who knows really?
