Seriously, why do fans care about how rich an athletic department is so much?

rutgers was way closer to being a contender before they joined the Big10.

what is there left to spend all this extra money on after everyone has great facilities too? Texas spent millions renovating their locker room twice within 5 years, that just seems wasteful

theyll always be able to poach our coaches with that extra money but that’s about it

While I don't disagree...

This is the new sad state of NCAAF. It's a race to the top, and the top 50 programs have had a large headstart.

I hate that USF is on the outside looking in... Cincy in the Big 12; and even UCONN is in the convo to make the jump to the P5.

I think you mean race to the bottom though.

I added after your quote but it could be similar to NFL/AFL merger.

Form one league (2 conferences) and break off from the rest of college football.

Makes sense .... form a 3rd college football subdivision.

FCS = Football Championship Subdivision

FBS = Football Bowl Subdivision

FAS = Football Awesome Subdivision

I don't get it either. They don't see the long term consequences of their actions.

That sounds nice and all... but a consistenly losing team, can have a one-off good year. I mean, USF showed a spotlight with Taggart, and then fell to the bottom to this day.

All the teams you mentioned are absolutely enjoying that bigger P5 money.

To expound on the point bulloni made, who gives a **** that the teams are enjoying that money ..... overall the fans aren't and that's the perspective we come from.

And I'm not saying we don't grab the chance at a P5 invite but it's not a guaranteed magic potion to cure everything.

USF was mid in the Big East... Hate to say it, but it's true. We were never close to winning the conference & we never made a BCS bowl.

Our best "record years" were under Taggart...In the "lesser" conference. But, the weaker conference (and less money) did HURT. Our competition meant fans didn't show up. Heck, with less money coming in, USF academics AND the local Tampa newspaper constantly question investment into our athletics.

So, the money and better in-conference match ups... makes a huge difference. Even when we were middle of the pack.

Like I said fans who actually want to watch winning football are not enjoying their moves at all.

Rutgers has finished with one winning season in the big 10 in 9 years. That was their first year and they went 3-5 in their conference.

Their fans know every year will be the same. Nothing but misery.

They had 8 winning seasons in their last 9 years in the big east including an 11-2 year.

WVU didn't have a losing season their last 10 years in the big east including a run of 3 straight years where they went 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 and won 2 BCS bowls and a gator bowl in those years.

their best year in the big 12 was a year where they lost the russell athletic bowl 7 years ago. they have a losing record in 3 of their last 4 years. Only exception was covid year.

no fans are enjoying the money over winning football.

Now you see why i always hated using the P5 term. It was something made up by the media (ESPN), schools that are part of the club, and other elitist snobs. Fans are sheeple following everything they tell them. Eventually more people will wake up and realize how much of a scam they have fallen for.
