I can see that. The old 'we're in the Big East, part of the BCS' was a selling point, to a degree. It's going to be interesting to see how the AAC impacts recruiting, a few years down the road.

IMO Bowl games and national ranking helped...It will take quality wins against non conference opponents to get back to the better bowls...and recognition.....

Then we will be able to attract  QUALITY  recruits to be "DEPTH"  backups and. develop the talent pool over several seasons...National Branding will bring in recruits  but I believe no one will step aside and make our future a cake walk...

USF also is not in a position to let someone start because of length of time in our program...Some recruits will not be happy but I don't know of any better way... This can have both positive and negative sides...

IMO the AAC is not much of a recruiting asset...and USF should not count on it...

Sometimes I wonder where the program would be, had we never moved to the Big East to begin with. I think we benefited from the revenue, but we just didn't seem to really muscle our way through, albeit a fair eight year run.

IMO we would have been far worse with recruiting.

Go Bulls.

We'd have never made it to #2 in the country if we hadn't been in the BE.  Even with the great start that year, we'd have been lucky to get into the Top 25 if we had still been in CUSA.  Really, for that matter, we wouldn't have had the recruiting to have the great start if we had still been in CUSA.

In other words, we would clearly be behind UCF in prestige.

"interesting" vs "major tv ratings generator" ???

Anyway, ya it could be a fun matchup. I would certainly watch. :)

I should have clarified better. I did not mean to imply the matchup would get the ratings of a Michigan and Ohio State type of rivalry. I just thought if USF can stay competitive, the similar brands and corresponding locations could develop a nationally appealing-albeit obviously far from elite early on-rivalry if promoted well enough.
Not sure Texas would feel the same way, which is why rivalry is a poor word to describe this matchup. We would be their mid-level non-conference game. Essentially, we'd be their FAU.
I did not say USF would be anywhere on par with the University of Texas. Just that under the right circumstances, it would have real potential as a matchup.

Of course it is a moot point, as USF will never be invited to the Big 12 anyways.

I was talking about the past.  In that case, never is only a few years.  Or, really, one specific year.  Not a long time.

I dont have access to the Ohio State site nor do I know why OSU would have knowledge on BIG12 but here is the OP from that thread:

Do any of you have a Premium Account with 247Sports.com? If so, can you give more insight on this.

Ohio St.'s Publisher States USF & UCF to Big 12

the initial morsel; May 1, 2013 - 20 posts - 9 authors

One guy claims to be friends with a guy who is friends with Taggart who told him the Big12 called USF last week, but Willie wouldn't tell him any ...

I'm not sure what is said just the notes on the web for the link. If anyone has an account, give up some info. 05-stirthepot.gif

To a degree? It was a major selling point of CJL. Don't you remember his speech about it that pissed off UCF and their fans...only 4 teams in Florida have a shot at a BCS game?

Think about it. USF was in the smallest BCS conference which didn't have quality, highly funded, major programs like Ohio St, USC, Texas, FSU which usually win their conference. WVU was the closest and USF proved they could beat them, so on paper, USF was a place with a decent shot at a BCS game. Now? They just have to be the highest ranked team of all the non-BCS conferences and independents. USF went from having to be the best of 8 teams to the best of what, ~60 teams?  Major impact for those that went hoping for a major bowl shot.

Yeah, I guess it was a major selling point, now absent. It's a shame we didn't do better in the BE, but that chapter is closed. Now we're not only back to the UCF level, we've thrown open our arms and welcomed them as conference mates. Hey...that reminds me...was there ever an official, conference sanctioned logo released? All I've seen is guesswork..well, again...this is the interwebs.
