It is NOW, it wasn't when the school was named.

Miami was nothing in the 50's... Tampa was THE south floridian city then.

There is a story behind our name...and I like it that way...now, everyone back to arguing about tasers and on campus stadiums.

Funny you should say that, because I was thinking while reading these.....

.....just like we don't need to blindly (lemming like) follow other Universities by building our own stadium to be successful, nor do we have to be lame just because other directional schools are.

I don't think USC (University of Southern California) or UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) seems to have any significant problem with directional or city named school. They merely call themselves by their initials. With the logo change (cool), USF  began to market their school as "USF" instead of  "University of South Florida"  for the same reason.

Anyway... I would hate to have to change my diploma. I paid good money for that frame. I already have a Troy State diploma and they have deleted the "State" from their name.

Geographical arguments aside, I like the name "University of South Florida".  To me, it's where I went... it also sounds kinda exotic and tropical.

I always thought that shirts with "University of South Florida" with graphics of palm trees and surf would sell well at the airport for when people pick up as last-minute gifts.  I checked out the sports store on level 3 and they just had a few USF logo clothing items.
