See in the OP how I was "tagged" within the post?  That elicits a notification up in the top right corner where the bell is.  The bell icon is where notifications show up.  I also get a banner across the bottom of my screen if I have notifications waiting on me when I first log onto TBP.  Whether or not you get those are settings that can all be adjusted in your profile area.
