USF Baseball Summer Ball Update

Carson Ragsdale, Joe Genord and Jake Sullivan off to solid starts with their respective teams

TAMPA, Fla., JUNE 19, 2018 – With summer baseball leagues officially under way, the USF baseball team had three of its athletes get started with their respective leagues.

Sophomore Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) has appeared in five games with the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League. He batted in one game, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. His other four games have come as a reliever, where he has really shined. The right hander has a 1.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Junior Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) began his stint with the Amsterdam Mohawks of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League last week. In six games, he is hitting .320 with two doubles, five runs scored and four RBI.

Redshirt freshman catcher Jake Sullivan (Tampa) has been feasting on opposing pitching through his first eight games with the Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plain League. Sullivan is batting .500 (14-for-28) with nine runs, two doubles and five RBI.

Redshirt sophomore lefty Connor Eason (Chesapeake, Va.) is with the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League, but has yet to play in any games. Juniors JD Dutka (Suwanee, Ga.) and Kyle Phillips (Orlando) will also be competing this summer. Dutka will be playing in the Sunbelt League in Georgia and Phillips will be in the Florida League.

Is it a good idea for Genord to be playing in Amsterdam?

It's Amsterdam, New York. If it had been the Netherlands I would have  made a joke that the Netherlands cricket team was planning to pick him up for their Tri-Series vs. Scotland and Ireland. They need the batting firepower.
