I guarentee if you ask all these up and coming kids who gigi fernandez is, they will look at you funny. Even ask some of the current and former players if they knew who she was before she talked to them, i bet they would have no idea! If she was so great for the program, she would still be coach, what does that tell you?

I don't follow tennis very much at all but instantly knew who she was... its tough to not know who she is if you watched ESPN at all over the over the past decade or so.

I just had a passing knowlege of the sport and knew about her.

Having a Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medal winner on staff was great for our program's prestige.  I would imagine those are the two goals that most tennis players only dream about and to be able to have someone coaching with those honors would be very attractive to a recruit, even if they weren't following the sport when she was at her peak.
