We don't need a new arena, the SunDome is actually in good shape still.  We just need to update it to fit our needs, and $29 million will go a long ways in doing that.

One of the things that has hurt the dome is the proliferation of venues in the Tampa area.  The dome used to be home for a lot of concerts, which brought in very good revenue streams.  However, with all the competition, there are fewer concerts to be played there.  Hopefully, some of those renovations will make the dome more attractive for concerts as well, and bring some of that money back to campus.

Question: has anyone heard anything about Mike LaPan's replacement?

I thought another thread said the new scoreboard would be put in for this season, but all other improvements will be for 2006-2007 season.

Also, I remember an article stating that Mike LaPan would not be replaced - not sure who takes over his responsibilities.

I have only been to the Sundome twice, once for a Boston concert... Its just the Sundome is so 70's.

Is this an attempt at irony, or what?

Not really, the Boston Concert was in the mid eighties, their second album.

The only reason I ask is the structual makeup of the sundome, I would think, would limit what could be done.  Those bubble stadium are just down right ugly.

You give them $50 - $100 mil and tell them you want them to build a new arena andI'm sure they will.

Heard from a couple of "knowledgeable" sources that

USF doesn't even own the SunDome and actually rents

it for athletic use. Anyone know for sure?

It is managed and operated by an independent agency called Sun Dome, Inc.

Not quite sure of the actual ownership, though.
