TAMPA, NOV.  18, 2016 – USF (1-1) will play its second game in three days when it hosts Rider (2-0) at 7 p.m. on Saturday. 

Through two games, the Bulls have been led in scoring by junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh). The transfer from Penn State is averaging 17.5 points per game and is coming off a 16-point performance in Thursday’s 74-61 loss to Elon. 

Freshman guard Michael Bibby (Phoenix) has also been impressive in his two games at USF. He scored 15 points against Elon and is second on the team in scoring with an average of 12.5, while also backing up Thorpe at the point guard position. Bibby is one of five players in the American Athletic Conference that is perfect from the free throw line (7-7). 

Junior center Ruben Guerrero (Spain) has led the Bulls on the defensive end with 11.0 rebounds over the two games. Freshman forward Tulio Da Silva (Brazil) is second with 9.0 per game. 

Promotions

USF is hosting a canned food drive on Saturday. Fans can bring three cans in exchange for a USF hat. All canned goods will go to the USF “Feed-A-Bull Food Pantry.”

 

The Opponent

Rider is coming off an 84-68 win at Hartford on Wednesday. Preseason Second Team All-MAAC selection Kahlil Thomas posted 20 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Senior forward Xavier Lundy leads the team with 16.5 points per game. The Broncs, which were picked to finish seventh in the 11-team MAAC, play their first five games away from their home in Lawrenceville, N.J. Rider returns five players, including one starter, from last season’s team which finished 13-20 overall.

 

Notables

·        USF is one of four NCAA Division I teams with no seniors on its roster. The other three are Bradley, Penn State and UT-Rio Grand Valley. 

·        It will be the second-ever meeting with Rider. USF leads the series 1-0 with the lone meeting coming on Dec. 28, 1988, a 94-89 win by the Bulls. 

·        USF returns just 40 percent of its scoring and 32 percent of its rebounding from last season’s team. With McMurray out (500 points), USF will have 16 percent of its returning scoring in uniform with Jake Bodway (25), Ruben Guerrero (163), Luis Santos (17), Bo Zeigler (126).
