Barnhardt Returning To USF Football

Published: Apr 26, 2005

TAMPA - Chad Barnhardt, who was the University of South Florida's starting quarterback for the program's first two seasons in 1997 and 1998, is returning to USF as an offensive graduate assistant.

Barnhardt resigned as Lake Wales High football coach Monday. Barnhardt, a Lake Wales graduate, spent the past six years with the Highlanders. He was baseball coach and an assistant football coach his first three seasons and then was head football coach the past three years.

``I've had a couple of opportunities before [to return to USF], but I turned them down,'' Barnhardt said. ``I needed to be loyal to my hometown. Now I need to be loyal to myself. Coming back to USF and getting into college coaching has always been a goal of mine.''

Barnhardt still holds eight school records and ranks No. 2 on USF's career passing and total offense charts behind Marquel Blackwell.

Yes, it is.

I wonder if that was the same position we were holding for Blackwell before he decided to go to the CFL.

It would be nice to get Ryan Hearn back as well.

Congrats Chad!  You did a great job as a QB for us, now it's time to continue that as a coach.
