Correct if I am wrong but AAC bowls are not aligned by how a team finishes. Unlike the Big East bowls where certain bowls had to take certain place teams. For example if Memphis only won six games the Birmingham would probably take them over any other team due to proximity.

I believe that the bowls are assigned teams based on the CFP rankings. I heard that bowls have 0 control over who they do and do not get. Could be wrong though.

Interesting read:

I think that after the top 25, that I read somewhere that ESPN and the Bowl would choose the remaining bowl match-ups.

The AAC and the Bowls determine which Bowls are the best fit for eligible teams. I have a feeling we are in St. Pete regardless of what happens from this point on.

St. Pete against Old Dominion would be disastrous...if we have to play in that bowl I am hoping that it is either against La. tech or WKU. At least both of those games would give us a story line and a decent challenge. I am holding out hope on the Birmingham Bowl against Auburn (who seems to be a lock there). Big name team and I love their fans.

Here you go, straight the horses mouth:

"Beyond the access to the College Football Playoff, bowl affiliations from the 2014 to 2019 seasons are as follows. The first five bowls listed will be part of a pool from which the Conference will place its teams. Bowl games will be placed based on best fit for the Conference and its membership."

I think the only way this happens if we make to AAC championship and lose otherwise its Memphis bowl to lose. Now if Fuente leaves and they lose another game this could change things. If we dont make to Championship I would like to see us in any game that pits us against a P5 team or BYU in Hawaii.
