I'm going to be taking the train from London to Paris and back in a couple weeks and was wondering if anyone had done it recently enough to answer a question or two. Last euro train trip was a month or two ago, though, so I am happy to offer advice if you need it.

Or is it more commuter train until you get to the coast and then switch to something else and again on the other side?

Much better than flying. You could take a more circuitous route I'm sure but no real reason to.

Take St Pancras to Nord. Once you're in Paris, you can get around to the major spots by the RER.

For the record I like many have never been to Europe. 1

The London -> Paris route has a special organization running it. JTrue, enjoy Paris. Way better than London.
