I haven't been able to do a fact check on this but here's what the word on the street is:
We have given up 12 fourth quarter leads in the last 3 years.
Think about the implications of this:
1. That's TWO season's worth of bowl eligibility
2. That's an extra 4 wins on average over the last 3 seasons. (Conceptually, we'd be at 6-1 this year, 9-3 last year, and 11-1 the year before)
3. We blame Cosh for a lot of our trouble but he's only been here for half a season.
4. This is too significant of a pattern to point to "depth". We are "deeper" than many of these teams. You have to point to clock and game management and the will of the coach to drive the dagger in.
This is absolutely alarming to me and probably the strongest argument I can think of for canning Holtz. This is not an anomaly or a trend; it's a problem. It's a failure. Again, I haven't fact checked this. But we all know fourth quarter blown leads are becoming the norm and I don't need a fact check to know that. Alarming.
