  1. The women won again tonight but there are a few things that concern me. First, they don't finish around the basket. Counted 15 shots that would be considered layups that didn't drop. The good news is that they got to the basket. But against better competition (like MD in the opener) those misses will cost you. If my memory serves me (which it may not) the center has fouled out of both games that I've seen. 3 point shooting is a big concern. Inga hit her first 2 but then went 0fer the rest of the night. At least 4 misses after the first 2. The gal from Spain, Pujol I believe, doesn't seem to have an outside shot. Made some sweet passes but her outside jumper looks like mine - no rotation on the ball, just kind of pushes it up there. Nice to see a win tonight but a very sloppy 2nd half. Scored 47 in the first and with 8 minutes remaining in the 2nd they were sitting at 59. CJF did go deep into his bench but had to but the starters back in when the lead got cut to about 13, maybe less.
  2. Didn't see too much zone last night. Should be practicing up on it if that is the plan. I stand by opinion that it will be a liability on defense. I'm not saying to not ever play the 2 together. We'll see how much time they get together.
  3. Was at the game so only got a look at things once. But Allen Jr. appears to be very good. Knocked down at least 3 three pointers. Got beat a couple of times defensively but all-in-all I liked his game. The 2 new big men both seem legit but we have to wait until they come up against more serious competition. Musa actually seems to shoot better off the dribble. When he had wide open looks he seemed to miss more often than not. Wondering if it is because he seems to elevate a bit more off the dribble??? LeDay looks a little bigger but still not sure about him. I still think Hawkins looks like the most natural player (the way Rocco Baldelli looked like he was made to play baseball) but don't know if he can be consistent enough. He missed some open looks from 3 as well. #15 looks adequate as a backup guard. I don't see Stan playing both Collins and Allen, Jr. at the same time very much. I may be wrong but that would be a VERY small back court. Big guards would kill them at the other end. And then who do you bring in to spell them? I don't like the rotation if they play together. There could be times when you want to go real small and real quick, but overall would like to see them sub for each other. Even though we missed a lot of shots around the basket, especially in the first half, just like last year; the team still had a different feel about it inside in a good way.
  4. Really? So all kids should stay at home and not attend collegiate athletic events? I, unfortunately, have a bit of a potty mouth. But when my grandson is around I am much more aware of what comes out since he repeats almost everything at this age (2). And at football games I check around to see if kids are in hearing distance before I drop a 4 letter word or two. I slip up occasionally but if someone made a point to let me know there were kids hearing it I would really watch myself.
  5. I don't believe that to be true. May not have worn his emotions on his sleeve but he hated the losing.
  6. Funny thing about this BCS bowl stuff and UCF. If USF went to a BCS Bowl anywhere other than Miami we would bring our normal 3 - 4K fans and eat all the money that not selling the allotment entails. We would get our butts whooped and then we would be crying on here about that. UCF seems to have a legit team this year, will make the BCS game, probably get their butts whipped and their fans will be crying about all the money they lost (unless they play in the Orange Bowl). To the original post, I don't see why anyone thinks USF has some birthright to be better than UCF. The schools are close enough in size and recruiting area to be about equal in sports. Up years and down years are going to happen to almost every D-1 school. Even Texas isn't flourishing right now. UF fans aren't the happiest people on the planet currently. If our record continues as is for the next 5 years then we have a problem. But I'm thinking we'll get to about .500 and better in that time frame.
  7. Agree about the crowd. More than we expected. Men's baseball was represented there as well. Spoke with Lelo and Pam. He's seems genuinely excited about some of the new guys coming in. It was a game there for the taking. But MD made a nice percentage of their free throws and made shots when they needed. Don't know if the ladies were too pumped up but there were a lot of shots that saw no part of the basket on drive attempts. And there must have been a half dozen or more that hit the back of the rim and bounced straight back. Usually a sign of being amped up. Many of the misses from under the basket reminded me of last years men's team. Layups rolling around and back out and some of those that hit the back of the rim. Being old school I'd like to see them use the backboard more on drives. Don't know all their names yet but #10 looked all-world at times and #3 provided an offensive spark.
  8. We'll be there. First time season tix holder of WBB. Know we won't make all the games but thought first game out we should make the effort.
  9. Kind of like that night back in 2007 when WVU v USF drew ESPN's largest Friday night football audience to that point.
  10. None of the big donors know who he is, and the Bulls Club doesn't get one cent from Mazza. He does nothing but talk about what he thinks he has. Ditto Edit: But maybe he is donating anonymously </sarcasm>
  11. Nice article about it .... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2013/10/23/new-no-hand-check-rule-hated-by-players-and-coaches/3172213/ This new rule is going to destroy USF since it penalizes teams that rely on defense. Not necessarily. A stout zone defense may actually benefit from this...charges should be called more as well. Wrong!! Charges will be called less now. There will be more blocking calls per what Stan Heath was discussing on his radio show. NCAA is copying the NBA type of rules because they feel that they need more offense. Personally, I think it is going to suck. I prefer college over the NBA because they used to let them play. Now there will be too many fouls. I will hate it. It it aint broke why try to fix it?? That was mostly a Big East thing. Seemed when it got to March Madness time that the Big East teams faced more foul problems than during the regular season. Refs from different conferences didn't officiate the same as BE IMO.
  12. sounds like an excuse for failing urban meyer didnt do anything wrong at florida usf is not in a p5 conference so our pool of recruits in a tier or two below of what is was 2 years ago You keep moaning about the recruits which sounds plausible until one actually looks at rivals or cbs, etc. Looks like USF is no worse than before and looks to be ahead of some household names. Not breaking any records but not taking a dump just yet. usf is alot worse being in non p5 conference------- it is rather obvious At this point isn't it also obvious that we can't do anything about it? We also aren't in the SEC. Does it matter? So true. WINNERS take challenging situations and work to succeed despite obstacles. LOSERS sit around and lament how they were left out or demoted. you need to tell this to usf since they have never won a thing Nobody has ever won a thing sitting around whining like you do. i am doing quite well thank you making money in law and other businesses things actually couldnt be better!!! my son graduated uc berkeley i have a hot lady by my side not many have it better than me but i realize tomorrow is promised to no one i live in gratitude and great appreciation i work about 15 hours a day 7 days a week i whine( as u put it) about usf football because we have been mired in medocrity since our inception(sure we have upset some teams but the football program is in downward trend) mission---you obviously have lower expectations than i do Why don't you throw a little of that cash at USF to help them find better coaches, AD's or whatever else you think is lacking in the program. It is one thing for kids in college on this Board to not be able to contribute. It is totally another for someone in your fine financial shape. Just sayin. Maybe some of the many problems that you see with the program could be improved upon.
  13. The review reversed the call on the field, which was a TD. I know that part. Was it challenged by RU or an automatic review? And how do you call a penalty from the review booth?
  14. Thought I saw you standing off on your own. We spent the 1st, 3rd and 4th qtrs in the suite. Came down to catch up with some people during the second. Ran into Zack Pietryzk (sp?) parents in the same row. He was a reliever on the baseball team a couple years back. Used to hang out with them on Friday nights on the Donaldson Deck. They have since moved to Houston but Zack is working with USF athletics. Something special about the camaraderie at away games.
  15. Re: the fumble forward play. why was that played reviewed? At that time were they reviewing all scoring plays? And penalties are not reviewable. So what was up?
  16. Didn't specify football brand value. If you think USF/UCF have a better name recognition in college sports than Cincinnati you need to try some other media outlets besides TBP ... Hell, tv announcers still can't get USF/UCF straight. That's only because no other school rhymes with Cincinnati.
  17. Always good to see you Silver. Got to see Pasco Bulk at the tailgate as well.
  18. He was on the phone minutes after seeing the replay. I have no idea with whom but he was pissed.
  19. Just getting back to hotel so here is my usual post game rant so I can sleep. First, the pre game tailgate was great. After the first UH drive I thought We would be out of there at end of the 3rd quarter. But the offense played like a real offense for a good part of the game,we got a turnover on the punt and the D played well in spots. Long story short it was a fun game to watch in person. Was sitting in the AD's suite when the offensive interference was called. Only saw 1 replay and the call looked bogus to us. The stadium was loud. Having a roof makes a huge difference. Looked like 20 - 25k on hand but they made a lot of noise. Their fans were fine. Not friendly but not nasty. Overall a good experience and with the chippiness during the game I can see this becoming a nice series. Now, if our D could tackle we may have been able to overcome that int. call. And coach T needs to get the plays in much quicker. Way too many wasted time outs and close calls. A loss is a loss but this one did not feel as bad as others. I liked some of the new plays we called as well. Good night all.
  20. So Aaron Lynch has jumped offside during warmups.
  21. So I didn't place a bet and yesterday discovered the line is 18. Thought it was a sure thing at 14. But 18 gives me pause.
  22. We are in for this one. Dinner tonight with Joe from the Bulls Club and doing the official tailgate tommorow. Hope to see you there Pasco. And Sheriff hopefully we will get to meet again at game. We met once the night before the Gator game.
  23. On the same topic Floyd started v McNeese (drove by their campus today) so was there for his start. Did Eveld start any games before Mich State? If not, was there for that as well.
