  1. The coaches that Scott hired came from an 11-2 FAU team. These coaches are coming from a 5-7 FAU team. It's actually more worrisome.
  2. His first game against USF as DC at UConn? Voodoo five.
  3. All part of the plan, my man. He's been angling for the USF DC job for years. He turned down CJS originally because he wanted more say in the OCS. I have very reliable sources and am looking at a text message telling me as much.
  4. Looks like a lot of bowl prep work -- the last guy must have been bored out of his mind with how little work there was to do the past three years.
  5. However, there's more to being a position coach than recruiting. They have to run drills, develop their players, provide them feedback during scrimmage and games. I'm concerned about this guy being able to get the most out of his group with no experience. If he's doing his job as a HC, I'd think he wouldn't have time to work with the TE group very much. The point is for your position coach to shoulder the majority of the work.
  6. My sources tell me Monday at 8 am. I’m 90% sure.
  7. The deal is 99% done and we should look for a meeting at 8:00 AM monday? Better ask @usfocsiscoming
  8. “Now, Scott may only be in Tampa for a few years if he succeeds.” I can think of another reason why he might only be in Tampa for a few years.
  9. Todd Monken, a fellow finalist, said he was going to "crush it" at USF.
  10. Kevin Patrick should be a good hire, but ****, 2 FAU guys right out of the gate? Scott took three. Will we end up under or over that?
  11. I wouldn't expect a head coach to do much recruiting himself unless it was a really big fish. I was more referring to the fact that he said that he has been recruiting the Tampa Bay area for years -- one of my concerns with the hire was his apparent lack of Florida ties. Fact-checking, as it was. If what he says is true, that's advantageous because that means he probably has a good reputation amongst Bay Area HS coaches who will ultimately play a role in steering their players recruiting process. However, his recruiting profile doesn't support that he's recruited in Florida a lot so it looked to me like he was embellishing things.
  12. I'd be interested to know more about his recruiting in this area -- I checked his 247 profile and I see 86 commitments for him and only two from Florida: Jonathan Echols (Bradenton '24) and Anthony Williams (Altamonte Springs '21). Looks like most of his guys (half) have come from OH, IL, CA, TN, and IA.
  13. Even if he hired the worst DC in the nation, he's going to pump him up. But the last time I heard "best" was "best is the standard" and then we finished in the bottom 2 of the conference for 3 years.
  14. Since when does "where he has been" matter? Our last coach was from Clemson and the one before was from Texas, Florida, and Louisville. Where did that get us? Here's Todd Orlando's past five years and where his defense ranked nationally and Chris Cosh's last five years before we hired him: Todd Orlando: FAU (66), USC (103), USC (46), Texas (65), Texas (58) Average: 68 Chris Cosh: Kansas State (68), Kansas State (78), Kansas State (46), Maryland (44), Maryland (24) Average: 52 You're right, it's laughable to compare because Cosh's defense averaged in the top half of FBS and Orlando's in the bottom half. Look, I'm not saying that Orlando isn't an upgrade from Shoop, but it's disingenuous for him to say he hired the best DC in the country. It smells of the same cluelessness that we suffered through CJS or CCS when he said he was going to slow the offense down, Sterlin Gilbert when he said he didn't watch any film from the prior year, CWT when he tried to force his Stanford offense here, etc. It's going to come back to bite him in the ass and turn into message board fodder when we see guys missing tackles, playing 10 yards off the receiver, getting burnt deep, etc. again this year.
  15. It kind of reeks of the "warm body" approach to defense we took in the latter Taggart years: an after thought because we plan on getting into shootouts every game.
  16. Not the best DC, but I'd expect with a pitch like that, it'd be a DC that's above our weight class. A Brian Jean-Mary or Tom Allen type. Todd Orlando's numbers are around where Chris Cosh's were when we hired him: Chris Cosh: 27.9 pts, 394.6 yds Todd Orlando: 26.6 pts, 424.8 yds
  17. "Keep finding ways that a young man can fall in love with your place. Got an incredible place to sell...um...[glances around]...palm trees...water...an incredible place. Those blue chippers will be lining up around the block after a pitch like that.
  18. Did he come highly recommended by Glenn Spencer? I mean, I was only kidding when I said I couldn't wait to see what FAU rejects we'd end up with on staff, this is ridiculous. I was ready to back off of my Jeff Scott 2.0 comments, but if this is his first hire and he's going to sell it as "the best DC in the country," I'm kind of skeptical.
  19. Certainly seems real, humble, blue-collar, etc. Can't wait to find out who the DC is.
  20. Per Golesh, he hired "the best DC in the country" who turned him down in the past. He says "it will probably get out today."
  21. Golesh said he stayed off social media for two days after the hire and is going to stay off another day. Golesh confirmed as a TBP member.
