  1. I already have to explain to people why we’re called South Florida, so why not?
  2. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE University of South Florida Announces Plans for New Mascot to Elevate Game Day Experience Tampa, FL - Aug. 15, 2023 - The University of South Florida is excited to announce its decision to replace the current mascot, Rocky, in a move aimed at enhancing the overall game day experience and raising the university's profile. The decision comes after careful consideration and the recognition of an opportunity to invigorate school spirit and engage fans in an even more dynamic way. Vice President of Athletics, Michael Kelly, expressed his enthusiasm for the change, stating, "A new mascot is a pivotal step in elevating the excitement of our game days. We believe that an updated and energetic symbol will better resonate with our fans, players, and alumni, fostering a stronger sense of unity and pride. This change aligns with our commitment to providing an unforgettable experience for everyone who attends our sporting events." University President, Rhea Law, also shared her thoughts on the decision, saying, "A fresh mascot is more than just a symbol - it's a representation of our university's values and spirit. As we embark on this journey to introduce a new mascot, we anticipate that it will not only revitalize our athletic events but also contribute to raising the profile of our institution on a broader scale. We look forward to the positive impact this change will bring." The university has engaged prominent consulting firm ProSpect Sports Consultancy to assist in the creation of the new mascot. After an extensive design process, five unique mascot designs have been developed. Now, the fans are invited to play a vital role in shaping the university's new identity by participating in the mascot selection process. A voting platform has been set up where fans can cast their votes for their favorite mascot design. "We value the input of our fans and community members, and we want them to be part of this exciting transition. Their voices will play a crucial role in determining the face of our university moving forward," Vice President Kelly added. The voting period is set to commence on August 22 and will run until September 11. Fans, students, and alumni are encouraged to visit the university's official website to cast their votes and contribute to this transformative change. 3. USF went 8-8 in CUSA after being in the conference for only 2 seasons and finishing no better than fifth. Saying we left them for dead is overestimating our worth considering teams like TCU, Louisville, Houston, and Cincinnati were our conference mates. Similarly, our 3-28 conference record over the past 4 seasons suggests our value to the conference is not high outside the academic profile. We haven’t done a good job of maintaining our brand and raising the profile of the conference nationally — hopefully Coach Golesh can rectify that.
  4. I reckon before long he'll be able to enter the human bean Hall of Fame which has only one other member.
  5. Oh, when a college freshman hits 320 lbs, it's celebrated. If I do it then I "need professional help" according to my wife.
  6. I’m just hoping the team is fun to watch this year. The Gulf Coast Offense was some of the most enjoyable football I’ve seen from us. I want to get back to that. No more ‘Clemson progrum culture’ nonsense or Sleepy Charlie bull. Need some energy. The level of competition has fallen so much in the past decade, we better be able to claw our way to the top of the conference.
  7. We're bad until we're not. We've been in the bottom 25 or so of FBS teams for five seasons. We're 4-33 since late 2019. We're bringing in a new HC with no experience. What respect have we earned? WKU is 27-17 since that timeframe with multiple bowl wins. UTSA is 30-13 with 2 conference championships. They do have superior teams.
  8. It used to be that my entire weekend was predicated on the result of the USF game. If we won, I was in a better mood, I enjoyed watching the other games more, I felt more upbeat. If we lost, I hated watching other games because seeing another team win would just set me over the edge. I'd be pissed off the rest of the night, I'd vent on TBP, read articles about how bad we were, etc. Now, I don't really care. We've been bad for a while. We've been left behind in realignment, the stakes have never been lower. We're on ESPN 8 with empty stands, cameramen who are lost, and announcers who spend more time talking about what they ate for lunch than the in-game action. We look flat and inept week after week. Doesn't really feel like it makes a difference if we win because it seems like there will be a letdown the following week. Unless we start stringing together a bunch of wins, make some noise, and most importantly, are fun to watch, it's not worth getting emotionally invested anymore. Plus, with NIL, realignment, the sorry state of our team, etc. I don't enjoy college football as much as I used to.
  9. smazza is nothing if not consistent; just bet that things won't pan out and more often then not, you'll be right
  10. And the Defensive Coordinator for UConn when we got stuffed on that play in '05?
  11. Carnegie Classification and AAU membership are completely different. All AAU members are classified as R1. AAU membership is like joining an invitation only professional organization — your peers are recognizing you as the best of the best.
  12. a) Why we're not actually as good as our record indicates and how the media is blowing things out of proportion. b) Why we're actually better than our record indicates and the media is not giving us enough respect.
  13. I’ve got a 2014 Ford Focus with a suspect transmission, a horn that doesn’t work, and will shake your fillings out from the vibrations. If anyone wants me to give a lift to the 2-star prospects, I can do that.
  14. I've heard plenty of rumblings today, but I took care of that in the bathroom after my first cup of coffee.
  15. CAG needs only one more FBS win to tie CJS' total during his tenure. Way to go, Coach Go!
  16. Yeah, we've been a sleeping giant for decades now. Starting to think this dude ain't waking up. By the way, I googled 'USF football explode' and here were some of the top results: UCF Knights outlast USF Bulls in 'War on I-4′ BYU football explodes past USF 50-21 Temple Offense Explodes in Win Over USF Former USF Football Player Shows Dangers of Fireworks 25 Ways The USF Bulls Program Has Completely Blown It Yeah, this is more the type of exploding we're known for...
  17. Speaking of which, I'm surprised deioniscoming decided not to hang around. He hasn't posted in 10 days. I was sure he was going to be a contributor to TBP for years to come.
  18. lol Iowa State don't waste time. The below is what you get if you access his ISU profile through google: https://cyclones.com/staff-directory/george-courides/497 Unlike USF that still has Jim Leavitt in their directory.
  19. The coaches that Scott hired came from an 11-2 FAU team. These coaches are coming from a 5-7 FAU team. It's actually more worrisome.
