  1. We didn't get a season ticket update from USF until August last year, so not sure you'll get a number anytime soon ...
  2. I really see very little correlation between APR and conference realignment. Doesn't hurt to have good scores, but it's not a criteria that matters.
  3. Ahem. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/basketball/college/gators-plan-1004-million-athletic-budget-for-2013-14/2126302
  4. It wasn't a rumor. His coaches -- and he -- expected to be drafted, but also made it clear he wanted to play college football. Talked to his dad as recently as last week, and there was the expectation of being drafted, but an understanding that he wanted to be a college athlete. Sometimes baseball teams will like an evaluation enough to use a high pick and try to change someone's mind with a six-figure signing bonus; other times, they'll respect the kid's wishes and not bother.
  5. Teams have 40 draft picks -- no need to sign all 40, so they'll take some risks. Red Sox drafted Florida QB Jeff Driskel, who hasn't played baseball since high school. No reason to think he'll give up being a starting QB in SEC for another sport, but stranger things happen. Jeff Samardzija was a stud Notre Dame receiver, future first-round NFL pick, and the Cubs drafted him and gave him a huge contract -- now he's one of their key pitchers.
  6. I haven't heard anything about tennis moving from its current location. And there's absolutely nothing new in what Woolard's saying about the stadium. Yes, USF wants one, yes, money is the only hurdle. USF wants alums to see campus when they come for home games. At the same time, they like the experience of playing in Raymond James Stadium for now.
  7. Orlando event had a bunch of giveaways (tickets, autographed football/basketballs) and lots of interaction with coaches.
  8. The thinking in redshirting Josh would be to give him three years of eligibility after Collins is gone. Just likely to get more out of Year Five than he should in Year One ...
  9. USF requires that its full-time assistants (and director of basketball operations) carry a degree. In theory, this could be waived for the right hire (like Rutgers and Eddie Jordan) but I don't think this is that kind of exception ...
  10. Can't be a graduate assistant unless you've graduated. He'll be a student manager ...
  11. Didn't hear anything on Gagloev. Honestly, not unusual for walk-ons to come or go without a lot of explanation. Konjanovski, who was a d-lineman in much same position as Gagloev, is also gone. You'll see guys invest a year or two, but if it doesn't look like they're getting on the field, it's a lot of time to invest on top of being a full-time student ... haven't heard of him surfacing anywhere else. Remember, he only had a handful of tackles in two seasons of NAIA football.
  12. My understanding is that it's a single letter ...
  13. Louisville was seen by most as a top-eight team entering Big East tournament, so fact that they're hosting (top 16) isn't really a shock ...
  14. I think B.J. had maybe 1,500. The biggest local athletes in terms of Twitter followings got them elsewhere -- Revis has like 350,000, and Goldson has more than 800,000 ...
  15. There are at least three if not four scholarship QBs who will get snaps ahead of Miller. Good kid, but even among the walk-on QBs, Tommy Eveld was picked ahead of Miller in the spring draft. Whether he goes to preseason camp with USF has more to do with how many QBs Taggart wants to carry -- it may only be five. ...
  16. It looked initially like USF wouldn't comment until he got to school July 1. He signed a national letter of intent with Penn State and you can only sign one of those. But he can sign a grant-in-aid, which is nonbinding but is official enough that he's no longer considered a recruitable athlete, so Taggart can comment on him ...
  17. Guys, the Big East has a national TV window for ESPNU on Sunday, and you don't get that unless TV knows a championship is being awarded in that game. So yes, you can have a team with no losses beaten by a team with one loss for a championship, but if you want TV, it's a small sacrifice.
  18. We'll have more on the offense -- i think it's more a familiarity with the complexity of an NFL-style offense -- absolutely different terminology, some differences in philosophy.
  19. Her term just ran out. It's a two-year term. I think she's fine having someone else chairing. Not that much to it.
  20. Just to be clear: We're getting frustrated by the big state/small state representation in the U.S. Senate. #1780messageboards
  21. He's made it clear he's taking his visits before he decides, and he's still going to Mississippi State tomorrow-Tuesday, will decide after that. He's been pretty consistent and forthright in both who he's considering and when he'll announce. ...
  22. Thanks, Triple. Goffs had all four hits today and scored the game's only run. So much for any jinx ...
  23. Ha. Asked about bowls, and specifically about Pinstripe and Russell Athletic being discussed for other leagues. Just said they will discuss bowl strategy (not publicly) at meetings in Ponte Vedra next week, that they want a bowl lineup that matches league's new geography. I'd think that means a presence in Texas now. Curious to see what they can do to line up bowl for league champion, in the event the American champ isn't in the top six bowls ...
