  1. omniscient ... i'm not sure what you were told, but i'd be glad to talk more privately. i'm at aumanac1@aol.com if you want to talk greg
  2. Nobody from any newspaper interrupted any practice, so not sure where that came from. Leavitt initially had practice completely open, then decided in the first week that practice would be open for the first half-hour and the final 15 minutes, as it was at the start of last fall. greg
  3. C-USA just wanted to go through all the tiebreakers and double-check before they updated the standings. They wouldn't confirm it for me until this morning. It scared me a bit, because I wrote USF had clinched for Sunday's paper, and then they hadn't done anything yesterday. Was afraid I'd misread a tiebreaker somewhere along the way. greg
  4. hey all. this is greg auman with the times. just wanted to update you guys on dawsey. i had a short story in today's paper in which dawsey said he's staying at USF. said he did go up to interview for the N.C. State job, largely because Amato and he are friends, but he said he's happy where he is and plans on staying at USF. ncsu hasn't filled its receivers job yet, but dawsey says he's staying. wanted to let you guys know. sorry it didn't get posted online -- sometimes the college football roundups that have a lot of AP information from other schools don't get posted on our web site. greg
  5. hey, howie. this is greg. wasn't me posting earlier. easy to confuse "usf2004" with "usfbulls2004." i'll certainly keep checking on usf-miami for 2005, though both schools are pretty tight-lipped when it comes to future schedules. greg
  6. hey all. just to clear something up -- i wrote the short in today's paper, but i wasn't the reporter who asked the question of leavitt. sorry if it came off as that odd writing-about-myself-in-the-third person kind of thing. and it really isn't about being newsy as much as it is being amusing. you really have to hear leavitt to appreciate the humor in what he said. greg
  7. the tropics site was moved to floridatropics.org. still hasn't been updated to show results of games scheduled as far back as five weeks ago, but the site's still running. new update shows two players signing "pro contracts" with the Kissimmee Kreatures of the National Indoor Football League. I'm thinking that league is so big that players don't even have to pay to be in it.
  8. sure. and quarterback, especially, is a tough position to come into as a true freshman. i know he got some headlines earlier in the season, but i don't think gachette was ever higher than No. 4 on the depth chart. severino may be a walk-on, but having a year in the system is a strong asset, and that familiarity is something gachette will gain more of this spring. greg
  9. they've dressed carlton williams recently, but i think they're hesitant to pull him out of a redshirt for what would be fill-in duty in a few games. they're already young at the position, with jenkins, williams and brant all redshirt freshmen. williams seems like a talented player, but i don't think he would be better-suited to step in right now than those three RS freshmen ... greg
  10. these aren't new corners. gipson and jenkins have both played extensively in every game (since gipson came back over on defense). brant hasn't, but why would he start ahead of either gipson or jenkins when he's been behind them both all season? you could consider williams, gipson and jenkins to have been in a three-corner rotation for much of this year, and now it's just two of the three playing at the same time ... greg
  11. the two kids howard was said to be competing with at notre dame are both also major Division I recruits, so it's not like he was losing out to scrubs. the coach was disappointed to see howard didn't step up to the competition as he'd hoped. howard wasn't at friendly high for four years. he was only there as a junior and senior. he started his high school career at DeMatha High, another prestigious basketball school in Maryland, and was at another school (i've forgotten which) as a sophomore. howard's coach from friendly speaks very highly of him as a player and as an on-court leader. his academics could be a hurdle, but they don't seem to be an insurmountable one right now.
  12. hey. JR actually does have a card, though it's a bit hard to find. he's in Upper Deck's "Foundations" set, and the rookie does show him in a USF uniform. it's serially numbered to just 350, so there aren't a ton of them around, but you can find them on ebay if you look. if i get a hold of one, i'll try to post a scan on the boards here ... greg
