  1. It's "Thed" Watson, with a D. His name is "Theodric," and most recruiting sites called him "Rick" last spring, but he answers to Thed -- even Leavitt calls him that. greg
  2. should have included a smiley when i posted that. the headline's fixed on the site now. thanks, howie greg
  3. excellent point. let me see what i can do. thanks for the tip. any time you guys see those kind of things, please e-mail me at aumanac1@aol.com or point them out here. greg
  4. you're completely right about the headline, first in that i didn't write it, but more so that it's just plain inaccurate. dearmas is the fourth player gone from the class, as i wrote, but he's the first one to quit; the other three never even practiced. i'll apologize for the headline - leavitt, rightfully, wasn't happy about it this morning. we should have something in the paper tomorrow to address the inaccuracy. greg
  5. buie is in a different situation from mompremier and julmiste. buie attended the fall and spring semesters as a full-time student, which puts him in good position to be eligible. because julmiste and mompremier left school during the fall semester and didn't complete any credits at USF last fall, they're in a different situation. because they started classes last fall, they have to treat last year as a redshirt season. they have four years to play four years now. buie is a sophomore by eligibility standards, but he can make the 2004 season his redshirt season (giving him eligibility for the 2008 season) if he graduates within his first four years on campus -- like clenton crossley did to play last year. if he can't do that, his last eligible football season will be 2007. ishmeal grant seems confident he'll be cleared, and he told me friday he expects to hear final word from the NCAA on monday. he's home in blountstown but said he'll report to practice as soon as he's allowed. greg
  6. Josh Julmiste already used his redshirt year last year. When he enrolled at USF in fall 2004, it started his five-year window - he's already a redshirt freshman. By the looks of things, he'll certainly play this fall. greg
  7. yes, it's the same aubrey hill who played at florida. he was on carl franks' staff at duke, then coached last season at Elon College in NC before joining Wannstedt's staff. He's a Carol City grad, so should help Pittsburgh's recruiting efforts in Miami ... greg
  8. hey all. just want to mention that George Kearse shouldn't be counted as someone intent on returning to USF anymore. I talked with him maybe two weeks ago, and he's headed to the College of the Sequoias -- same school as Brent Schaeffer. Anyway, Kearse told me he's no longer planning on signing with USF in 2006 -- as was the case a year ago -- and is re-opening his options for where he'll go after a year in california. could very well sign with the Bulls, but he'll be taking visits, looking at other schools, etc. greg
  9. i'm not writing anything on it, but i talked with schaeffer's stepdad today and he insists brent hasn't made his decision yet. if i had to guess right now, i'd think clemson is where he'll end up, but his stepdad said he hadn't decided yet. greg
  10. hey guys. thanks for the reminder to check on this -- leavitt had mentioned delaware state for henderson last week. here's what we ran today ... Ex-Bull running back to play for Delaware St. Billy Henderson, the Pinellas Park running back who left South Florida's program in January, will play his final college season at Division I-AA Delaware State. Henderson, whose Bulls career was limited by a torn knee ligament last year, rushed for 148 yards in three seasons at USF before graduating this spring. He joins a Hornets roster that included four players from St. Petersburg last season. Delaware State opens its season at Florida A&M, one week before the Rattlers come to Tampa to play USF. greg
  11. Getting to be a good depth chart. Ean Randolph has to sit out the 2005 season after transferring from Webber. Mike Lube and Jordan Hicks are gone. From what I hear, Treco Bellamy could end up at defensive end before too long, but you're right to put him at LB for now.
  12. thanks for the link howie. saw steve in the office this week. as you guys have mentioned, it'll help a lot to have another NFL veteran on the staff. USF also looked at a younger candidate, player from Bartow named Rashad Faison, played safety at South Carolina under Lou Holtz. Wally Burnham had recruited him there, and I could see him landing a GA job with the Bulls down the road. same with marquel. greg
  13. just padding my posts. i could hit 100 by football season.
  14. hi. good idea to post that at top of threads. lots of little changes ... joyner and chance are gone. Planchar is Plancher. Rickey Ponton is Ricky. Dremetice Smith should be Drametrice. Ric Watson is going by "Thed". buie is technically a sophomore -- he won't get that extra year back until he graduates. gachette is a redshirt freshman. that's all i could fine. i'm sure we'll tweak that chart a lot in the next month or so ... greg
  15. here's the "preseason depth chart" for USF listed in the Big East 2005 media guide: WR: Johnny Peyton, Amarri Jackson LT: Jerome Springfield, Theodric Watson LG: Frank Davis, Antonio Searcy* C: John Miller, Jake Griffin/Nick Capogna RG: Chris Carothers, Matt Huners RT: Marc Dile, Walter Walker TE: Derek Carter, Mike Ruegger/Will Bleakley WR: Jackie Chambers, Travis Lipp WR: S.J. Green, Marcus Edwards QB: Pat Julmiste, Courtney Denson RB: Andre Hall, Ricky Ponton FB: Siaosi Uhatafe, Mike Ruegger LE: Jon Simmons, Tavarious Robinson NT: Allen Cray, Richard Clebert DT: Tim Jones, Eric Thomas RE: Terrence Royal, Josh Julmiste SLB: Stephen Nicholas, Patrick St. Louis* MLB: Ben Moffitt, Josh Balloon WLB: Ronnie McCullough, Gene Coleman CB: Trae Williams, A.J. Brant CB: D'Juan Brown, Mike Jenkins SS: Johnnie Jones, Jeremy Burnett FS: Danny Verpaele, Louis Gachette NB: Carlton Williams, Drametrice Smith PK: Kyle Bronson, Justin Teachey P: Brandon Baker LS: Ryan Bourdeau H: Brandon Baker, Travis Lipp KR: Trae Williams, Andre Hall PR: Amarri Jackson, Jackie Chambers so that's it. obviously searcy is now gone, and the linebackers have shifted a bit, with st louis now the starter at weakside according to wally burnham. there aren't any true freshmen on the two-deep right now, and obviously that could change in the next month ... greg
  16. oh yeah. haliburton is a second-team receiver as well, as i recall ... greg
  17. hey. bain left the program after the season and wasn't in school  this spring. the main reason was continued problems with knee and pelvic injuries. leavitt said at media days that with the last two recruiting classes, bain wouldn't have gotten many passes this fall. he's very high on jackson, taurus johnson, ishmeal grant, jessie hester jr., all the new receivers ... greg
  18. guys, usf put out a new two-deep depth chart for the big east media guide. i have it at work, so i'll type it in later this afternoon. a few changes include amarri jackson as a second-team receiver, gene coleman as a second-team weakside linebacker. ben moffitt is now starting in the middle, nicholas on strongside, st louis at weak side. i'll try to type it in this afternoon ... greg
  19. this preseason poll wasn't selected by coaches -- there are three media members from each school that vote in the big east preseason poll ...
  20. fisher isn't included - he wasn't on the 2004 fall roster, was already out of the program. same with randy jackson, broward holsey, dorrean james, carlisle johnson, who left last summer. i count C.J. Lewis, Cedric King, Mike Williams, Joe Bain, J.B. Garris, David Mullins, Billy Henderson, Willie Williams, Andre Copeland, Willie Phelps, C.J. Hunnicutt, Craig Lloyd, Devon Davis, Shadie Jones, Marten Toewe, Rod Joyner, Ramon McCullough, Antonio Searcy, Curtis Chance ... i'm missing one more but can't remember off top of my head ... very few of them were significant losses, but the volume is what stands out ...
  21. "Yeah. It's like a cow's opinion. It doesn't matter."
  22. it was the top note in our front-page rail, which is usually a mishmash of notes and teases to stories inside the section so it usually isn't posted online. here's what ran: Don't worry, college football fans. Florida A&M's renowned marching band, above, is coming to Tampa on Sept. 10, when the Rattlers play at USF. FAMU is reducing its athletic budget by $3-million and has cut the travel budget of its Marching 100 band. But Julian White, the band director for six years, said Thursday he has been reassured by interim president Castell Bryant. ""The president has reiterated to me that the band's travel is not going to be affected,'' he said. … GREG AUMAN, Times staff writer
  23. hey folks. we did a short note in today's paper to say that the FAMU band will be in tampa for the USF game in september. their band director said he has been assured that the band will be at every game -- it's as big a draw as the football team is these days. greg
  24. St. Pete Times, June 23 USF: Reserve center Konimba Diarra, who requested a release last month, will transfer to the College of Charleston. The 6-foot-10 sophomore, who averaged 1.2 points and 8.2 minutes, will sit out this season and have two years of eligibility left.
