  1. Wow! CWT announced yesterday that he was leaving. Temple has been searching for a coach for over a week. To expect USF to have all of his ducks in a row in hiring a new coach in one day is ridiculous. there is no doubt that they were preparing for this and had some ideas but it's going to take a couple of days to execute. And I for one want to make sure that they make a well-thought-out decision. USF is in the same spot they were When CJL got fired having a solid team, recruiting on the upswing and a bright future. I am confident nobody wants to go through another Holtz debacle. So unless they absolutely know 100% who that guy is I'm all for them not making a rash decision.

  3. Totally happy for him. He did a great job at USF. The true measure of a leader is what they leaves behind and it's hard to argue that he left the program in significantly better shape than when he found it. people deserve to be able to pursue their dreams I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully USF will make a great higher so we won't have To go through another Holtz ere. My preference right now would be Charlie Strong number one or the offense of coordinator from Clemson.
  4. Didn't see the game but saw the statistics. Not sure it's possible for one team to be whistled for 23 fouls and the other team whistled for only 13. Have to be suspect officiating when you only have four foul shots compared to 27 for the other team. Very hard to win with that type of disparity. Also looking at the stats USF had 38 points in the paint and only got to the foul line 4 times seem unbelievable. Any comments from someone who saw the game.
  5. From what I can remember there were as more players who said that it didn't happen that said that it did. In his article Fennelly characterized the incident as an attack. "Miller is the father of Joel Miller, the player Leavitt was accused of attacking at halftime". It's obvious he has a grudge against CJl and his reporting should be taken with a grain of salt. I also believe the CJL settlement was made with no admission of wrongdoing yet Fennelly states there was no question it did happen. Regardless there is no doubt that something happened in the locker room however it was extremely overblown. The fire was fueled by a media didn't like CJL as evidenced by this article. It's obvious the contempt still exists. The real driver of this was Brett McMurphy who used a student athlete to push his own career while leaving the student hanging. I always felt BM spent more time creating news rather than reporting it. It did lead him to a better job so I guess good for him. But to suggest that CJL does not deserve another chance at a head coaches job is absurd. The only people screaming is the media and Miller's dad. If he was 25% as bad as they portray him, you would expect that dozens of former USF players would have spoken out against him which just isn't the case. As a matter fact from what I've followed and read is the exact opposite, most of his former USF players praise him and respect him
  6. Football is a violent sport & injuries can happen on any play, not to believe that is nieve. The Pats lost Rob Gronkoski on an extra point in Preseason. Runninig up the score is not the problem,as a matter of fact I believe you should keep your foot on the gas as long as you can. But when you have the ball and you can kneel down to end the game you should do it.
  7. This UCF coaching staff is the real deal especially the HC. They turned an 0-11 team to a bowl team. They were very prepared for USF and played hard all the way to the end but USF has just too many athletes. This rivalry is going to be awesome. If CWT stays USF should have an edge because of recruiting. CWT ran the ball three times at the end ,although I don't agree with it, I didn't think that it was that far out of line. However I can understand how UCF probably felt. This is nowhere near as bad as when CWT was throwing the ball deep at the end of a blowout earlier this year. My opinion still stands however when the game is over kneel down to protect your players from injury. it's about winning not running up the score. Hopefully he doesn't learn this lesson the hard way by losing a key athlete on a meaningless play.
  8. Obviously it's a combination of talent and coaching. However good coaches can make adjustments even with average players to at least be competitive. This defense more often than not is not even competitive. By games end I wasn't even enjoying watching. it was ridiculous.
  9. With all these issues you have no choice but look at leadership. COA has to answer and be accountable for the desaster of the last 7 months. 3 years into his tenure and there is still no stability. Virtually impossible to improve under current circumstances. Harlem is a smart guy so maybe there is something we don't know but I can't see COA surviving unless he beats the odds and has a great year
  10. 100% agree. With 5 DB's they are not physical enough to stop a power team. Also DE's are playing terrible & Sanchez has been non existent. if they don't change Navy gaining 700yds may be conservative
  11. What's really troubling is they have not adjusted the defense for the team they're playing. The personal they had on the field against temple was simply not physical enough in the front seven to stop the run. It's the exact same situation that happened with FSU. The defensive alignment leaves them over matched against physical teams. It's clear that when this defense has teams in third and long or when they have to pass is when it's most effective. So why not adjust your defensive philosophy to stuff the run on first and second down and forced teams to adjust their offensive philosophy. I have confidence in the athletes we have in the secondary. They didn't even change the defensive philosophy when they knew temple had to run in the fourth quarter. Just Mind boggling. Their DE's are constantly being tied up inside and don't set the edge. If you watch all those long runs the defensive end got pushed inside immediately . I don't know if this is by design or just lack of ability. in either case it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to shore up something that is a weakness . You cannot beat a team unless you can physically match them.I think that USF has players to do that but they're allainment against certain teams leaves them very light in the back seven. They play the exact same defense week in and week out regardless of the opponent. If they don't make an adjustment against Navy they could rush for 700 yds. #43 has been terrible the last 4 games taking bad angles missing tackles. He either needs to step it up or be benched IMO. The reason why it's very frustrating is they have the talent to be good.
  12. Temple used the FSU offensive game plan. USF simply can't set the edge on defence and their LB's are not physical enough to stop the Run. It amazes me that they make no adjustments to compensate for it. Navy may run for 700 yds. It seems that they just won't make adjustments. Temple physically kicked their Butt. hopefully QF IS OK
  13. Just an observation not saying I agree with it. The USF vs FSU game was Hyped as a coming out party for USF football. I believe a lot of fans went expecting a very competitive game or a USF victory. what they got was a blowout that gave the appearance USF was not ready for prime time. If you remember back when attendance was growing before the disaster of skip Holtz ,fans believed that USF could be competitive with anybody. Their performance in that game did not bring that feeling back to the fans. I don't agree , because I believe this team has done an incredible job and has a legitimate chance to not only win the conference but make it to a New Year's bowl. I live in Massachusetts but I am planning a trip to Tampa for either the Navy game or you UCF to show support for the drive to grow attendance.
  14. kneeling at the end of the game is not about showing respect for your opponent. Football is a violent sport and injuries can happen on any play. So it makes 0 sense to run needless xtra plays when you don't need to and expose players to injury. For CWT to do that showed a lack of respect for his own players. if he did it for some revenge motive makes it even worse, I might have cut him some slack if he did this with his backups.
  15. Unless they adjust their defense for Navy they will get killed. they may outscore them but they will be brutalized on defense just like last year. I don't know why they continue to run the same defense for everybody. against strong running teams five defensive backs makes no sense it's been proven over and over, hopefully they will adjust for Navy. To be a championship team they need to be able to put in game plans to give their teams the best chance to win! Otherwise thought that was a great win yesterday. IMO they played their worst game (mistake wise) of the year and still won.
  16. The defense they normally play is not designed to stop power running teams it's designed to stop the spread offense. That's why they need to adjust their game plan playing teams like FSU & Navy. It's very frustrating when you watch their defense of ends continually not set the edge on running plays.
  17. I don't know what the challenges is but they just don't set the edge and they allow runners is to get outside consistently. Compounding the problem is that they are poor tacklers in the secondary. Not sure if that's just poor player execution or poor coaching. When they play teams that have less talent they tend to do better but when they play teams that have equal or better talent they will struggle unless they fix this. I believe they have the athletes on defense they just need to execute better. This defense has problems with teams that have strong running games. coaching need to be flexible enough to change and put more men in the box when that happens. Their athletes in the defense backfield can hold her own with most teams in the passing game.
  18. Their Achilles heel last year on defense was tackling. It reared its ugly head again yesterday. If they don't tackle better especially in the secondary it could be a very long day. Poor tackling kept Syracuse on the field Way more than should they should've been.
  19. IMO Won't play QB at USF. Maybe slot or he looked tough enough for safety. A Very tough & versatile athelete though. Hope he sticks as he has been really vocal about getting more Recruits to come to USF.
  20. Due to CWT recruiting this is a much deeper team. Probably one of the deepest, especially at the skill positions that I can remember. Also they are young fast and experienced.Hopefully this translates to consistency throughout the year.
  21. No doubt Mack,he's bigger ,stronger and He has next level ability. Hall was good but defiantly a step below Mack.
  22. How can a Group of Div 1 atheletes be this bad and shoot this poorly? I like COA and he seems to recruit ok. But he has done a terrible job coaching. Their shooting problems is a direct reflection of no movement and seemingly no offensive philosophy and that falls on the coaching staff. Very hard to see how this gets better. I felt that way about football and it turned around hope basketball Does the same. Although one difference seems COA players seem like they are not playing hard for him
  23. Does anybody know when USF can stop paying Leavett and Holtz. If it's this year don't be surprised at a huge raise for Taggart in line with the Huston and Temple's #'s. IMO the AAC might be trying push its way into the power 5 making it 6 conferences and keeping good coaches that can have had success is a key. To do that requires paying the HC and his assistants enough money to keep them from jumping.
  24. When your kicker can't get it past the 15 yard line you have to come up with a scheme. Obviously they kick it short and to the left to try to smother the return man. if he just average is 15 yard return they're starting at the 30 yard line. It's really not a coaching problem it's a kicker problem. I give the coach credit for coming up with a scheme to get them the best chance to limit long returns .
  25. Agree all coaches stepped up but the O-line was the key to the turn around. He took a line that was below average last year and with most of the same players turned them into a strength. Herd from a Miami booster that an insider told him Les Miles is the next UM coach . LSU is just ironing out his 15 million buyout.
