  1. The offensive line play improved immediately as soon as he showed up. Their blocking techniques and discipline has made the total difference in this year's team. If he stays, next year could be very special with the talent they have coming back at the skill positions . he deserves a raise!
  2. They were +9 on the offensive boards and + 11 total rebounds and lost by 12 . How does that happen? They had 8 assists and 12 turnover, and they went 0-10 from beyond the 3 point line. The difference between BU and USF was startling BU''s offense had motion and the players were moving. USF played basically one-on-one basketball and everybody just stood around and watched for the most part. IMO Coaching can fix that. Counting Spain they have played 9 games. if the coaching staff was doing its job this team shoul be progressing not regressing. They had enough talent to defeat every team on their schedule up to this point! The only saving grace against Kentucky will be that Coach Cal will not want to embarrass his protégé . However he does have some talent coming in and hopefully he can turn it around like CWT did.
  3. Didn't USF get a ton of money when the Football part of the Big East collapsed. If they want to compete there is no question they have to raise the pool for assistant coaches. In my opinion the reason USF has is turned it around is a direct result of the coaching on the offensive line and the defensive coordinator. They not only need to pay Alan they need to pay Hope also.
  4. USF season turned when CWT changed his offensive coaching philosophy and with the hiring of Hope and Alan. I always felt that if he could turn it around on the field he could build a solid program because of his recruiting abilities. this appears to have happened I would absolutely agree that he deserves a raise and an extention. However they need to add more $ for his assistants as they have been huge in USF's turnaround. This team is disciplined and well coached and they are improving weekly.
  5. FAMU doesn't count as they are a lower division
  6. I Don't believe they won a game with any other color helmet than white. Hope they don't jinx themselves. IMO stay with what's working.
  7. 100% difference is CWT took the shackles off QF. Defenses are now forced to play us more honestly opening up space to create big plays. in the losses to Memphis and Navy he slipped back to his old self.Hopefully he's learned his lesson and will keep the offence in high gear from now on.
  8. Way to early to talk of fireing him. However this team has been sloppy in both games and basically gave away two wins.COA has to bear the brunt of that. however I will admit that this one of least athletic USF teams I seen.Their bigs look like they have cement shoes and the backcourt has shown very little quickness. However they still had enough talent to beat the two teams they lost to. Unless something drastically happens they may not even match last years record.
  9. This team might not win a game. Amazing how poor their bigs are playing. I thought they would be a strength. Their lack of quickness was also surprising. They couldn't even inbounds against pressure. Poor coaching- very sad days ahead for USF Basketball. Only positive I saw was Peters and the freshman Mcmurry.
  10. Not saying to milk the clock, just be more deliberate,no need to snap it with 20 seconds on the on the play clock bring it down under 10 Or five. BTW you can stay in hurry up to take advantage of mismatches just don't snap it till you burn some clock.
  11. I have to give credit where credit is due. I was very critcal of CWT early on because he was not opening up the offence. IMO if he had done so USF would have at least two more wins. But CWT has turned it around and it's exciting to watch them play. This team is considerably better coached than the previous two years. Also exciting is the fact that they have been getting better every week (another sign of good coaching) hopefully that trend continues. i still believe CWT has a ways to go as a game coach as evidenced by his use of timeouts at the end of the half and clock mangment in the 4th quarter. Up but 14, your in plus territory with less 9 min to play is not the time for hurry up. Don't limit the playbook just take more time to limit your opponents possessions. GO BULS!
  12. Play calling is marginally better. USF needs to run play action more on first down. Maybe to open the game or sometime in the middle of the second or third quarter he needs to run play action two or three times in a row just to keep the defenses honest this will absolutely open up the running game. If I was the opposing coach I would take the risk of getting burned once on a play action on first down knowing that the tendency for USF is to maybe run that once or twice in a game. But if they showed that they were willing to do it on consecutive plays I might have to change my philosophy and my defensive alignment. My feeling is they need to be willing to run play action at least 30% of the time .
  13. I'm not saying that CWT doesn't deserve credit. All I'm saying is you cannot deny that coach Alan has an impact on this team. And IMO his aggressiveness and success on defense has put pressure on the other coaches and players to step up. CWT is the head coach and he deserves the credit for great performances and also some criticism when the performance is terrible. That being said he absolutely deserves a lot of the credit for this teams turnaround. However I still feel he has a ways to go in the play calling & game management, but he is growing. No doubt that he will continue to bring talent to USF my hope is he continues to grow so he can be our coach for the future.
  14. After looking again at the Navy game. The amount of yardage Navy Put up was in part because of USF mistakes on offence. Also lack of offensive production allowed Navy to have the ball fo almost 20 min. In the second half. Allen has put in a defense that utilizes USF's athleticism! On top of that he has coached them up and they are getting better weekly, a big example is how they improved their tackling. Also He has absolutely impacted this team with his enthusiasm. I feel his performance has forced CWT to raise his game, making everybody better.
  15. Arguably this was QF worst game throwing. He missed several deep balls however every once in a while a good team wins a game like this. No doubt the defense is for real. CWT is a terrible play caller and that is what will doom them against Temple and Cincy
  16. Execution and play calling still lacking. However they are close to really having this offense in gear. You're right it is much more enjoyable watching this team knowing that at least they have a chance to move the ball 1. Way to many drops and mistakes against Navy. 2. The tight end dropped a perfect pass in the first half that would have put the Bulls up by Two scores. 3. QF going out of bounds short of the first down and stoping a drive. 3. Mental lapses on D letting Navy convert several long third downs 4. NOT ENOUGH passes on first down 5. Missed FG they were able to overcome some of these mistakes in other games against lesser opponents However they can't do that against better teams as it will bite them in the Butt just like at Navy and Memphis
  17. Navy had more passing yards against Tulane then running yards,a first for navy. I would gladly match USF athletes in the defensive secondary one-on-one to stop Navy's time consuming, physically taxing Running game. Also USF had less than 9 min in TOP in the second half Again CWT regressed back on his play calling maybe because QF was not 100%. But if that's the case don't let him play if you have handcuff you offence. this offence will not go unless defenses respect the QB. All I'm saying is in Saturday's loss USF had that opportunity if they would've thrown more play action on first down.
  18. Poor Game plan on both sides of the ball that's why they couldnt overcome some of the player mistakes. this game was there for the taking. 431 yards rushing is shameful with the talent they have. did this coaching staff not see the film from the Navy Tulane game last week? Even the announcers recognized it and referred to it repeatedly. I get that CWT wants to be a running team but I am flabbergasted that he would continue to make it difficult for his run game by not throwing more play action on first down. QF threw the ball exceptionally well today and is getting better every Week. IMO this offence will explode when they make defenses respect the pass on first down. All in all it was a great physical effort and the team played very hard but that is of little consequence when you lose. Edited

  20. CWT regressed today as his play-calling it was absolutely atrocious. He did not adjust to Navy's defense with more play action passes on first down. the only time I remember him doing it was in the beginning of the second-half and it went for a huge gain. By not doing it he never forced Navy to adjust on defense. It's beyond understanding why he would insist on making it harder For his run game by forcing defenses off the line of scrimmage with play action . QF threw the ball very well. Drops killed him. Also too many critical mistakes. #1. With the score 10 -3 flowers hit his tight end perfectly and he dropped the pass and we missed a field goal #2 In the second half with USF leading 17 to 13 they had the ball and we're driving and QF ran out of bounds 1 yard shot of the first down marker. Navy than drove down the field and got a field goal and took a lot of energy out of the defense #3 USF's FG KICKER IS TERRIBLE #4 you can't fumble the kick return #5 REALLY STUPID PERSONAL FOUL PENILTY #6 how do you give up 431 yards rushing to anyone? By having a POOR game plan. Did they not watch the Tulane tape. dispite all these mistakes they still had a chance to win. The players played very Hard today but they should be held responsible for the mistakes they made. However the coaching did a terrible job with game planning and I believe they need to look in the Mirror also
  21. Too many drop balls and bad play calling.. CWT regressed , only one play action pass on first down at the beginning of the third quarter and it worked. the whole game he just did not adjust the Navy's defense it was clear they were going to make QF throw. More play action On first down would've made it easier for his running backs it might've opened up the running game for them. How in the F how in the F do you give up 431 yard rushing. Did they not watch the temple game
  22. Some Observations 1. Now that CWT has put some faith in his QB. QF athleticism is forcing defenses to respect him, opening up opportunities for others to make plays 2. QF passing ability is better than expected and improving weekly. If USF didn't have so many drops passes His #'s against SMU would have been much better and they would have scored at least 2 more TD's 3. They overcame a lot of mistakes Saturday and we're still able beat a team they were supposed to beat by a lot. This is one of the key signs that your team is getting better. 4. They have not put a a complete game together on offense yet 5. The D is for real- fast and aggressive. Their ability to create negative plays is unbelievable and it seem they are learning to tackle better. Navy will a big test for sure 6. It clear that this team is better coached especially on the offensive line. It's very clear that the blocking on the entire offence Recievers included has improved significantly 7. Other than one game they are committing significantly less penalties another sign of good coaching 8. Special teams need improvement specifically kick coverage and FG kicker 9. I was one of CWT biggest detractors. But I will admit he has started to show signs that his has control of his team 10. I don't know how they will finish the year but it's great to have hope again. 11. His job is safe at this point because without doubt he can recruit
  23. This has the feel of a classic trap game. Just looking at SMU's Record would lead you to believe that this should be a cakewalk (USF favored by 13 1/2). However when you look at their strength of schedule and talent, they are very capable of beating USF. On the other hand USF is coming off two big wins and their confidence is soaring . Even though with their past Record they have no right to be cocky human nature can take over. With the coaches and players talking about the quality of SMU and challenge they present ,it appears that they recognize this also. Hopefully it sinks in and they play well Saturday.
  24. Just finished watching the replay. it's not lack of effort. I believe it's a lack of technique some of those guys just don't seem to take good angles or breakdown properly when they go for a tackle. My guess was they gave at least 50 to 75 extra yards because of missed tackles. That would be a disaster against a better opponent. this Defense, if they tackled well they would be scary great not just good.
