  1. Not sure why some of you seem so giddy about his firing. The guy took over a steaming pile of garbage here (and WKU for that matter) and turned us into something respectable. Some of you seem to just refuse to give him credit for anything.....saying that Q and Mack deserve some of that buyout money....that it was because of Kinnan, Weist, etc, etc. Everything that has gone wrong here as of late is ultimately on Charlie, so I guess the 2015 & 2016 teams success was ultimately on Taggs? Each and every one of you likely would have bolted for the $$$ just as he did. He will be an FBS Head Coach to start the 2020 if he wants it. I wish the guy nothing but the best.
  2. I think we've improved on both sides of the ball since our game vs. SMU. We've won 3 of 4 since, the OL has improved quite a bit, and the defense seems to be playing better as a unit. We're a slightly better team than the one we fielded against SMU at this point, so the Us vs. SMU/Memphis vs. SMU comparison might not be that accurate. Probably this, but maybe ECU exposed something? Cincy basically gets a week off (UConn) before they play us. They will still be ranked coming into Tampa. Great opportunity to beat a Top 25 team, something Charlie has yet to do in his tenure here. Wishful thinking here. They are still very good, and this looks to be the least winnable game left. They look to be the most balanced, and that offense will be a problem. The season isn't over yet, but I agree with this, regardless of what our record ends up being. The schedule is tougher this year, and I get the feeling that there is at least hope at this point. I think we have improved tremendously since the first couple of weeks, especially on offense, and can continue to do so if McCloud (or any of the QBs) improves the passing game.
  3. In the G5? Or do you think we will be called up to the P5 eventually?
  4. I think Corey just picked a random player from the roster to troll the board with. I doubt he actually pays any particular attention to Roberts when he watches the games.
  5. Agreed. I think Bell is starting to make this work, which I wasn't sure was possible given how bad we looked in the first couple weeks. As far as BJM, I like what I've seen on defense lately. I just hope that unit can avoid another SMU type beatdown over the last four games. As far as Charlie goes, anybody know how much involvement he has, or what his involvement is on gameday as far as personnel decisions, play calling, etc.? I know he's given Bell full control of the offense. Not sure how hands-on he is with the defense. I'm assuming Bell decides which QB goes each week?
  6. Fair enough. The final 4 games will be a good barometer for this team. 2-2 would be nice. Something better would be great.
  7. ...which makes for a tough choice on who to start. Rygol has a cannon for an arm, and can run a bit. Doesn't seem to panic much in the pocket, although we haven't seen much of him in meaningful game time yet. Evans ability to run obviously open doors for the offense, much like Q. If he's even a decent passer, he can help us win a lot of games. As someone else mentioned, McCloud is a little of both. The staff will have to choose if they want to be a run first (Evans) offense, or more of a true Pro Style offense (McCloud Evans). I'd like to see us settle on one QB, but if the QB by committee thing works....
  8. I had to look this up....wasn't sure if you were being serious, or taking a poke at our own lack of facilities, and sure enough...came across this article which actually mentions your hometown of Frisco... https://footballscoop.com/news/60-texas-high-schools-dallas-fort-worth-area-indoor-practice-facilities/ I had never thought about what kind of money a High School coach might make, but over 100K/yr being somewhat common (at least in Texas) is not what I would have guessed. That's some serious dough for that level of coaching.
  9. There has been a big separation between us and the scrub teams lately, unlike last year where we were barely beating UConn, Tulsa, etc. The problem is the separation between us and the good teams so far. I thought we missed some good opportunities early in the Navy game that could have made a difference. To me, it looks like the only thing....or biggest thing anyway...separating us from some of the better teams in the conference is the QB play. Guys are open, McCloud just hasn't been able to find them, or can't connect consistently. Our running game and OL play have made tremendous strides since week one. McCloud has shown flashes, and may end up being very good in coming years. Looks like there might be a durability problem there though.
  10. We've had three blowout wins, and three blowout losses, which makes this already bi-polar message board a lot of fun. I think we've definitely improved as well. I think Bell is adapting, and starting to get something out of the talent he has. If we ever get any consistency in the passing game, I believe this offense could be quite good. The defense is coming together too. I know I'm in the minority here, but I would like to see Charlie, Bell, and BJM back next year, especially if they manage a couple more wins. This is different than Skip's last year, which looked hopeless by this point in the season. This feels more like Willie's second year, when things weren't going great, but you could feel a possible turnaround coming, which eventually happened.
  11. Point is, the reasons being given for not letting App State jump to the AAC could apply to us making the jump to the P5. It's pretty funny listening to folks in here seeming to have the attitude that App State shouldn't be in our league, yet think we are Big 12/ACC material.
  12. P5 conferences may be saying the same thing about us, minus the "quality football" part Wonder who's watching us outside this area. Most fans around the country can't tell us apart from our rivals to the East. Not saying App State would be my first pick, but they have done well, and would be competitive I believe. If winning isn't enough, what does a school like that have to do to move up? Is the Sun Belt their ceiling? P5 fans view us they way some of you view App State.
  13. That maybe true, but according to this article anyway, our Athletic Department seems worse off than many others... USF has underinvested in the history of the program. It would make sense that the Bulls are behind UConn with their history and tradition in terms of athletics budget. But being more than $10 million behind Temple in operating income is inexcusable (they’re north of $60 million, we’re around $50 million). Cinci and SMU are in the pricier neighborhood too, and their facilities are all in better shape than ours and they all have indoor practice facilities already. As our friends at PAPN have repeatedly pointed out on a national broadcast, we’ve got a football team splitting a weight room with a volleyball team and a soccer team, and that just isn’t done in 2019 at any schools at our level.
  14. He'll be getting paid ridiculous money at FSU no matter what. He's done well for himself and his family no matter what the W-L ends up looking like....and he may end up winning at FSU if given time. He did a good job here, definitely put together the best offense we've ever had, and eventually learned how to get the most out of the talent he assembled. He probably left us right in time. Our offense was red-hot in 2016, and we were about to lose Mack and Adams. It would have been risky to stay here, passing up the big $$$ Oregon, and eventually FSU were throwing at him. I don't think that staying here another couple of years, even if he had won big, would have upped his stock that much.....he ended up getting a great contract by bailing when he did. If he stays for 2017 and the GCO isn't as effective without Mack and Adams, maybe his stock falls. He did the right thing.
  15. Impressive highlights. Some of those offensive plays look similar to what we run, except that they actually execute. Hopefully he is the piece that's been missing. I don't think we're as far away from being good on offense as some think.
  16. What are you basing this on, because he's looked OK in limited time so far...
  17. They also struggled with William & Mary as well as Old Dominion. Every match-up is different. There's not a single game of our's left that I'd put good money on us to win, but if I had to pick two wins.....ECU and Temple. 'Course, I thought Navy was a possible win, and we all saw how that went.
  18. Yep. We paid big money for a 5-7 coach, and 5-7 is about what we'll be getting this year. Nobody will be hiring him away from us. Pretty sure he'll be back next year.
  19. UConn ahead of Tulane? Also thought SMU would have been higher than that. I guess that will come if they keep playing the way they've been playing.
  20. Throw a guaranteed, long-term contract at a guy who wasn't a winner at his last stop, and this is what can happen. I'm not as down as everybody else though. It was obvious early on in the season that this offense was going to need time. They have made progress in some areas, and did beat a team with a pulse (BYU, who BTW knocked off Boise yesterday). Even against Navy, there were several opportunities to make a game out of it, just couldn't hit a few wide open guys, which could have entirely changed the game. Charlie (or Kerwin?) absolutely has to cut the crap and stop sticking a one armed JM out there. If he's still hurting vs. ECU, and they allow him to miss wide open WRs all day on the way to another loss, I'll have run out of ways to defend Charlie and his staff.
  21. I wonder what the budget looks like for a new coach (and staff), while still paying Charlie's buyout? If the $$$ is as big a problem as some in here make it out to be, I can see a scenario where we finish 5-7, and Charlie gets another year.
  22. Former Seahawk Dave Kreig was 7TH string QB for NAIA Milton College, which is no longer in existence, and he made it all the way to the NFL. Actually played many years and had a pretty good career, including getting the Seahawks to the AFC Championship game. I doubt Blake gets there, but stranger things have happened. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Krieg
  23. I don't think it would make any difference this year. Would still be running the same offense and defense, and other than ECU (who I think we will beat), we're likely to lose the last 4 no matter who the coach is. The change I really want to see would be Rygol at QB. Let's see what he can do. The OL has gotten better, just need a QB who can make the throws. Could make a big difference. I think the subject of a coaching change should be put on hold until after the UCF game.
