  1. No, but he lost games and conferences at every level along the way He never "ran rickshaw" through any conference, so there's no proof he would have done to in the AAC Times are much different now. We barely beat them in OT in his last game against them, when we were in the Big East and they were CUSA. He never had to deal with a UCF team the caliber of the ones lately I have no problem with CJL. He took us from nothing to the National spotlight in a decade. That's awesome. No doubt. But he had his shortcomings.
  2. I think there might have been a problem with Cristobal and the AD, not sure. Cristobal is the guy I wanted here when Taggart left.
  3. Same here. I appreciate what CJL did here. I appreciate what CWT did as well. He had us ranked, and put us back on the map.
  4. Willie bolted WKU, USF, and Oregon before the bowl games that he got them to. I really don't see it as that big a deal that he didn't stick around to maybe win any of those. Plus, how many people on this board have called these bowl games meaningless anyway? I seem to recall them saying that about UCF beating Auburn. Skip and Charlie have won championships elsewhere, but nobody has won one here. Taggart has exactly as many championships as CJL as a Head Coach.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the "we're not a good team" comment was earlier in the season, when we actually sucked. We've clearly improved, and had a decent win vs. BYU, and have blown out the bad teams lately. I'd say that we're average at this point, the confidence is growing, and we're still improving. If the QB play was better, I think we could win any of the remaining games. A lot of youth at that position, so it's understandable that we're not all that consistent at QB. I think 1-3 is very possible, but 2-2 would be far from a miracle. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I expect a win vs. Temple, and I don't rule out a win against Cincy or Memphis. UCF will be rough. Hopefully the momentum and confidence is rolling heading into that game.
  6. Maybe a CCS-type purge was in order? Charlie mentioned in the video that NEBull just posted that he's friends with CWT. Probably the advice Strong would have given him if CWT had another year.
  7. Agreed, and I think Charlie gets another year even at 5-7. We'll see what the last 4 games look like, but as of right now, I'm ok with the idea of Charlie, Bell, & BJM being back next season. There is definite improvement, and I think Bell's system will good with time. I think BJM has done a better job than he gets credit for, for the most part. The more the offense sustains drives and keeps the defense off the field, the better they have looked. Get the passing game rolling, and this could look really good.
  8. Flowers certainly helped, I don't think anyone would argue that, but as I mentioned in a previous post, Taggart gave Q a chance at QB when other schools were recruiting him for other positions. Taggart and his staff couldn't have created an offense better suited to take advantage of Flowers and his talents than the GCO. I'd say that each deserves credit for making the other look good. I certainly agree with your last two paragraphs.
  9. It's not that I'm a gigantic fan of Willie Taggart, but I do appreciate what he brought here, and don't really get why some people here seem so elated at his firing.
  10. He could be similar to Holtz, who's capable of success at a certain level. Holtz has done well in CUSA....he's actually 7-1 this season so far....but sucked here. We'll see where CWT ends up, and what he does there. I'd take him over Holtz any day of the week though. That's not even close.
  11. This is fair. Worked out pretty well here, certainly better than Holtz. I don't recall Taggart doing anything blatantly stupid on gameday, like Holtz letting the clock run down from 30 seconds to 2 seconds at the end of the half, inside the 5 yard line, with two timeouts left. I actually liked CWT's willingness to keep scoring when he was already up big.
  12. That's a good question. He didn't stick around long enough at any stop to find out. I mentioned in another post that the stars aligned just right for him here: Flowers, Adams, Mack, Kinnan, Weist, Reeves, etc all here at the same time....but that he still deserves credit for assembling that group. Whether or not he could have kept that rolling after Flowers and Mack, we'll never know.
  13. I'm getting tired of pointing out the rebuild thing. Nobody was going to come here and win instantly after Holtz. Same with WKU. He, or anyone else in those situations, were going to accumulate some Ls. FSU was a big jump, and it didn't work out. It happens.
  14. No championship that year, or any other year at this school. He was the first to hit double digit wins here though. Not easy to do, and something that doesn't happen often around here. Ironically, Charlie was the only other to hit double digit wins. You can argue who's players Charlie did that with, but you might have to admit it was Willie's players, which would mean you'd actually have to give him credit for something...
  15. He's not a loser in my book, so we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. He's no Saban or Swinney, but he hasn't done terribly overall in my opinion. Again, I'm thankful for what he brought here, and wish him the best going forward.
  16. CCS is an entirely different argument, but CWT took the program from really bad, to good. He took some lumps along the way for sure, but eventually changed the offense to fit the talent, and he is ultimately responsible for turning it around here in my opinion.
  17. We've been talking about it. He took over crap situations that weren't going to be fixed instantly. You are normally going to accumulate some Ls in rebuilds.
  18. I would also mention that Q was being recruited at other positions than QB. Taggart was one of the few who gave him a chance at that position, and eventually built an offense that Q was able to shine in. It literally seemed custom built for Flowers. We may have never heard of Flowers had he went elsewhere as a DB or slot receiver. Some of you say Flower made Taggs. It could be argued both ways. Whatever the case, it worked out well here for both.
  19. 11-2 in 2016. Whatever it took to get to double digit wins, I'll take it. He and his staff put together a very good offense, and had all the pieces working perfectly. I'm glad he made a stop here. There may have been no Q, Mack, or Adams without him. Ended up working out well for CWT and the three players I mentioned, who all made NFL rosters, however brief...
  20. Yes, I'm amazed he couldn't do better that year with all that talent Skip left him. We were ranked before he left.
  21. WKU was 0-12 before he got there. He got them to a bowl before he left. We were, what 3-9 before he arrived here? He had us pretty **** good before leaving here. He has had to rebuild at almost every stop....even at FSU according to some. He has typically left programs far better than when he arrived. He managed to get Kendall Briles...who I believe you thought highly of...to come to FSU. Just didn't work out for whatever reason, though I thought that was an awfully fast firing. Also, he did OK at Oregon in his one year there.
  22. His "Family" would probably be WKU, his alma mater. I guess you'll be angry with any future coach who makes a stop here and has some success, because other than CJL, they are going to bolt, just as Taggart did, each and every time a P5 school throws money at them. That's life in the American. Would have been risky for Taggart to stay here any longer. He bolted at the right time.
  23. Taggart, or someone on his staff, was responsible for bringing Q and Mack here. That may not have happened without him. That was the best offense we've ever seen here. Not saying we should bring him back, but he helped turned this program around. Would it kill you to give the guy a little credit? He got a REALLY quick hook at FSU. Not often you see a guy get canned that quickly with it being strictly performance related.
