Even when Tom Allen was here, we was truly never great at defense. Brian Jean-Marie comes in and flipped the defense around. But for some reason he is not getting as much praise as Tom Allen did. Let me get this out of the way, I get it for many of you, this season was a failure b/c we didn’t have UCF’s success, our offense wasn’t as great as last year, our schedule sucks and blah, blah, blah….but does that give any reason to dismiss BJM’s success this year? Only ONE team scored over 31 pts on us this year and that was UCF. Take away the ECU game and it goes even lower. We was ranked in the 100s last year and this year we was ranked in the top 30, could have been top 25/top 20, but things happen. I just don’t understand how the only coaches this board has ever praised was CJL and Tom Allen….every other coach I noticed seems to be disregarded. It’s time we start being grateful for the coaches and team we do have. If you want to crap on the team, let’s lose and have a bad season first. Not while we are 9-2 with a chance at 10 victories and a bowl win over a P5 team. I didn’t pull out any stats to back up this post, b/c none are needed. Brian Jean-Marie should be the MVP of the coaching staff this year. After the early signing day we had on 12/20/17, I am ecstatic about how bad a.$.$ our defense will be next year and for years to come. I do think he deserves props for what happened but the defense is also solely responsible for one of our losses (4 and 23!) and mostly responsible for the UCF shoot-out loss (special teams was pretty poor as well). 1

Bad teams scored a lot on us the last few years so now we are stopping them now. whats rhe difference?

That was a lucky play. Those things happen. The defense kept houston under 29pts. All the offense had to do was score 30pts

Other than using the word "was" instead of "were" on a few occasions, good post. I agree that BJM has been mostly a bright spot....and I don't care what the number say, last year's offense was definitely better.

Id love to see the average offensive ranking of the teams we played this year. 75 maybe? Get rid of the ucf and it drops to what, 90? Total improvement, but not blown away by any means. In 2017 our defense was much improved even with almost no LB depth. I think many of us are excited to see what this D will look like with more of their recruited players. The D line looks to be stacked with this recruiting class and the 2 Duke Transfers. Going forward, the template for this team looks to be a strong defense with a ball/clock controlling offense. Much like the Leavitt teams which I think many would be okay with.
