Best thing that could have happened to the team in the off season.  Should put a real chip on their shoulders going into summer and the beginning of the season.  Will also keep them from reading their own press clippings and getting too full of themselves.

If anyone understands this please explain.  It still lists projects us with 9.8 wins, which is 8th or 9th best in terms of number of wins.  To me this is more important than anything.  From what I read its kind of what Vegas uses to predict wins, etc.  Not a big deal, especially when you consider how bad our D was last season.

My guess is we could go almost undefeated next year and with our schedule they would still consider us comparatively low on the "power" index. It's an easy way for them to favor the power 5.

If our schedule is hot garbage then we should be unbeaten this season . But if we lose to anyone then that puts our Bulls just a hair above garbage no ?

Should be unbeaten, yes. On paper, there isn't a team on the schedule who's better than us. That's going to be the rub all year. If we do lose, it will be to an inferior team without much on the schedule to overcome that impression from voters. Even a 11-2 season with the conference championship game isn't going to hold a lot of weight when our best OOC win is Illinois and a couple loses in conference to middle of the pack AAC teams.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
