Anyone that watches college football knows that these things are cyclical.  Enjoy your up time now, because you'll be down again.  Even the, "elite" programs go through ups and downs.  Look at UF right now and it wasn't that long ago that Alabama wasn't very good.

Can't deny what UCF has done recently no matter how long they have been in existence. We should have been there at this point and every opportunity to when we were in the BE, but were not. Time to make things happen and overtake them.

And UCF's been building theirs since 1979. USF since 1997. Let's go back, 18 years and see what UCF had built by then.

 

1996 and UCF was an independent with a 5-6 record and had just moved up from 1aa. Not too impressive. Because at this same stage in development, USF:

 

• USF was ranked for the first time exactly 10 years and 10 days after its inaugural game against Kentucky Wesleyan in 1997.^[15]
• USF rose at an unprecedented pace, earning an AP ranking 104 polls after becoming a full-time, bowl eligible FBS member in 2001. Boise State had the previous record, getting ranked after 115 AP polls during their seventh season.^[15]
• USF became the fastest team in the modern era of college football to go from upstart NCAA FBS school to a top-10 ranking on Sunday, Sept. 30. There were 106 AP polls and 112 Coaches Polls since USF became a full-time FBS member in 2001.^[15]
• The same can be said about the top-5 ranking, which took USF 107 weeks to achieve.^[15]

UCF's claim to fame at the same point in time? The first football program to play in four different NCAA divisions (III, II, I-AA and I-A).^[1]

 

Their only real claim to fame was Daunte Culpepper until then.

Seriously slick? You're throwing out the we were ranked crap. USF has never finished the year ranked, UCF should be able to do that yet again this year with a bowl win. Unlike a lot of USF fans I was around in the beginning of the USF program and knew several of the people involved. I also was around during the div 2 days at UCF. USF built their program off of a brand new NFL stadium, cheap seats with a lot of perks not found at college stadiums and a win at all administration and coach that bent many rules and character be damned. UCF ranks near the top of the APR scores while USF ranks near the bottom. Classroom translate on to the field as well. Even in the"good times" for USF , your teams were known for not finishing a season. Start well, lose later, that is coaching and character. USF has never had it, that must be built just like a culture in a successful corporation.
