Anybody see troy Polomalu last night jumping the line on a goal-line play?

 

Is this a different situation, or just a difference in rules between NFL and NCAA?

 

I saw it, I think it's a different situation.  Polamalu was trying to time the snap to jump over the line and stop a QB sneak at the goal line, he just timed it wrong and was offsides, I believe.

 

The penalty for leaping is because (just my interpretation) you have one guy trying to leap over guys who are already engaged with other blockers.  To get up really high you have to use your teammates to launch upwards, like Flip said above.  It's a bit of dangerous play which is my guess on why it's not allowed.
