Funny.  I fantasize about a degree in economics every day at my "MIS" job.

Funny.  I fantasize about a degree in economics every day at my "MIS" job. 

 

It's not uncommon for those in the MIS field to fantasize about being anywhere else. 

 

You know, the best MIS gig I had was right out of school. I did a co-op @ USF for GTE Data Services (Verizon) - and the group I was in used PACBASE (a COBOL generator CASE tool (remember when CASE was the wave of the future?)). That stint got me in touch with CGI - a subsidiary of IBM - which was working on converting an existing VSAM based accounts payable system to DB2 with multi-language interface (French, English & Spanish). I learned soooo much, and it was such a great project. If every MIS assignment had been that interesting...

 

But here's the real question: is this so much about choosing a different major, subsequent career path, and tinkering with the space time continuum...or is it really "do you wanna be young again"?
