No AD worth anything would EVER come here if that was the type of contract we offered. But don't worry I'm sure if YOU offer YOUR boss that kind of deal for you he/she will gladly take you up on it.

I don't disagree only trying to point out that ethics when linked to performance bonuses is a volatile mix.

A decent base salary with a huge bonus structure is actually a common way to do things.

 

I've been interviewing for VP positions and have been explicitly told my bonus may be 3x my "base" salary (of 6-figures).

 

I don't think an AD sure of himself would turn his nose up at the structure; assuming it was worth their while. Obviously if base+bonus isn't competitive with other departments nobody would come as it'd be all risk. If you make it somewhat substantially larger than average they'll come.
