While at the Jesuit championship game today we ran into Skip and Jenifer Holtz.  Their son is on the team.  Our friend, another USF employee, has a son on the team and we went to give our support.  Got a chance to say our goodbyes finally.  Not trying to start up the whole controversy again; just wanted to say that they are just really nice people.  Skip harbors no hard feelings.  Understands that ADs have tough decisions to make.  Is still a USF fan and wants to see the kids he brought in do well.  We aren't huge donors but that never mattered to them.  The move probably had to be made but we'll miss seeing them although we plan to stay in touch.  They, at least Jen and the kids, will be in the area until the end of the school year.  Already closed on a house in La.

Good luck to him and his family.

Never a doubt that the Holtzes are good people; wish them the best.

Being a good person doesn't always make you a good coach. Plain and simple the man basically stole from our school and didn't do a thing to earn the millions we gave him. He won't be getting any pitty from me because he's sleeping on literal millions. Dadys boy can't cut it

Nobody's asking you to "pitty" him. The thread was started about Holtz, the man, not the coach ...

Did you not read where I didn't want to stir up the whole thing again?  Too much to ask of some people I guess.

How he always talked (and made actions) about getting his kids in the classroom and out of college as fast as possible, I always felt like Skip was a good man at heart. Which is probably why he never used any timeouts.

But seriously, great guy, not a good coach for us.

Holtz always seemed like a good guy, and he did lead us to a bowl win over Clemson. It's amazing how bad things got last year. Towards the end, it looked like he had never coached a game in his life. I hope he does well in LA, but I'm glad that we have Taggart.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
