Does USF simply lack competitive talent?

I am by no means taking the blame away from Skip Holtz, a lot of this falls on the head coach, and personally I do not see how administration can bring him back, given the disgust from the fan base.

However, do we just simply lack the talent to compete in the big east? In all our rants against Holtz we assume that we have talented players who are able to compete, but what are we really basing this on?

We have never had a highly ranked recruiting class, and we are usually in the ranked in the middle of the big east. Comparing ourseleves to other teams it is evident that we are grossly undersized. This can be made up by speed, smarts, and athleticism, however is this what is occuring?

This team is mostly Skip's team

We had 1 borderline top 25 class with Leavitt.

Instead we are in the process of assembling our worst rated class in a long time.

Our BE history

2005 4-3

2006 4-3

2007 4-3

2008 2-5

2009 3-4

2010 3-4

2011 1-6

2012 1-6(?)

2008 was inexplicable especially with Grothe returning, but we lost a lot from the defense.

2009 we had the Grothe injury but were a defensive stand agains UConn from being 4-3

So it is possible we do not have talent enough to compete in the Big East. However, that would also require us to believe that either 1- everyone else in the conference got markedly better the last few years (and no one believes that) or 2- that we are recruiting worse than our peers now but we were recruiting better before we got to the Big East or 3- some other cause that rhymes with ipholtz.

Or a combination of all 3...

It could be a combination. Like ordering at the Chinese restaurant, "give me clusterfuc& combination #5 please"
