  1. Has anyone seen the COISKI videos on YouTube, where they tour a good amount of the athletic facilities at various college campuses? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMGMiLSz3jiQiw-hRpRsSbA The university representatives in these videos make it clear that all the bells and whistles are for the recruits. We can debate all day if it really matters. Does seem like a lot of money that could be allocated to other areas if it doesn't help recruiting and university pride.
  2. Certainly turned into solid players for UCF. Shaquem has 10 sacks on the year despite having only one hand and Shaquill has 4 interceptions. They were Bay made (Lakewood High School, St Pete) but did not stay....Not sure how much of a shot we had at landing them, but they would of helped our defense.................
  3. http://www.campusrush.com/big-12-expansion-status-houston-cincinnati-byu-uconn-david-boren-2006279271.html Can someone tell me why these writers continue to think UCF has an edge over USF? They just came off a doughnut season, USF has better academics (USF is emerging preeminent based on objective data), and a larger media market. Is it the size of UCF, the OCS, The lack of an NFL team, the BCS win????? There must be an explanation for the love affair.
  4. Can we re-visit the OCS on MOSI property as a done deal......Seems like a lot of chips have to fall USFs way to put their eggs in this basket. MOSI has to move downtown, USF has to buy/lease/or somehow acquire that property from the county. Then build a stadium. While anybody would take this in a heartbeat, its not ideal, and all things being equal nobody would want the stadium separated from campus by a major road unless the benefits clearly outweighed the negatives. So what are these absolute positives, to justify the additional expense of purchasing the property and having the stadium across Fowler, rather then relocating the track and tennis courts and having the stadium in the heart of campus.
  5. I've always been a huge proponent of the OCS, and welcome any discussion to get us moving in that direction. In the short term I really would like to see the IPF get built. First, we can benefit from it, as we lose practices to weather. Second, its very inexpensive compared to a stadium. Its an excellent project to test Harlan's ability to get the community/donors involved.
  6. So Tulsa and Connecticut get games against power 5 teams while Memphis, Temple, Cincinnati, and USF get Group of 5 teams. When did we abandon conference record and choice of a bowl? I get the whole attendance argument but at some point if our conference is going to get some respect the naysayers are going to look at records in these bowl games and we are certainly not putting our best teams in that position. (We used to make this argument in the Big East days) Yes USF playing in St Pete would put more people in the seats than USF playing in another bowl, but based on our season attendance I cannot see this number as being that significant. I hope I'm wrong on this one........................
  7. I'll take a win any way we can. These in state games follow a different script. Yes UCF is 0-11, but a 2-8 Conference USA team just took a University of Florida team with National Title hopes to the brink. I also seem to recall quite possibly our worst team ever almost beating UCFs best team ever that included an NFL caliber quarterback.
  8. I hope our team takes note. There is a saying, "I'd rather have a life defined by oh wells, than what ifs."
  9. by donating $10 million to kick off the stadium funding drive............. Big donations coming in (Morsani, Muma, Pippenger, and now Zimmerman) Its nice to see Have the stadium named after you, you'll own USF. Thanks again to Mr. Zimmerman for the recent donation $10 million donation. One could only hope, this will happen sooner rather then later................
  10. essentially has to develop a quarterback or land a stud this offseason to save his job. At the beginning of this year we had quarterback questions, at the end of this year we still have quarterback questions.
  11. Fact of the matter is the diehards will always be here, however tradionally these early kickoffs are disasters attendance wise, couple this with day after thanksgiving and matters become much worse. This is our rivalry game and we should expect a spike in attendance, but this will certainly negate that. We also need to remember that the day after thanksgiving is not a traditional holiday with automatic closures of industry, thus many people who would have made the game might be working at 12 noon. Only way we can prevent this is to have the AAC schedule this game on a weekend other than thanksgiving.......
  12. Tags saving grace at this point is his recruiting, I'd like to see what he lands come national signing day. Def need to see 2 quarterbacks in the class.
  13. I do not see how you can even compare an OCS and a P5 invite in terms of the goals for a new AD. One (the OCS) the AD and university has control over with fundraising and gathering support. Very black and white, you do it, you get it. A P5 invite is out of the ADs hands, building a winning program does not guarantee admission, there is a lot more to it including academics, overall need, and what admission brings to the new conference. Judy cannot make a performance goal for a new AD to get admission into the P5, is the P5 even an official entity or just a name given by the media?
  14. There's a reason that Judy's with the AD and the two most important coaches in USF athletics in this photo and it's not because Judy just naturally likes mugging for the cameras. ' JMHO, but I doubt that CWT or CSH really wanted to be there and I'm pretty sure they weren't having fun. Like it or not, but save for the medical dean we can argue that the 4 people in this photo are probably the most important individuals on the payroll.
  15. I think sometimes we may need to look at this objectively, clearly these conference shuffling talks revolve around football. As for facilities UCF has an OCS which already has plans to expand to 58K, and an indoor practice facility. Both items we all agree USF eventually needs. A facade can be placed around brighthouse and their OCS will look just like Florida State. Television market, Tampa has the lead however its not leaps and bounds. A good stat would be to measure what percentage in the market follow other teams, presumably most in both markets will be following UF and FSU. If UCF continues to have success they will garner a higher share in their market and close the gap of our larger size in general. Academics are also a toss up, USF has more research, but UCF does a much better job graduating their students. Both schools would be a great addition to a conference, but taking one without the other and going after another school from a different state might also be the better option.
  16. If USF feels its important enough to hold a press conference for winning the mascot challenge, then it is perfectly acceptable to assign culpability to the President for the current state of athletics, Especially when this happens on the same day that school from Orlando wins a BCS bowl.......
  17. Virtually every university who is not currently in the AAU has obtaining membership as part of their strategic plan. It's certainly a benchmark to strive for. We have to be honest with ourselves however, the AAU isn't calling with our abysmal graduation rates. Until that improves significantly, it's just a pipe dream.
  18. Any other state school in the country? Link? Academics or Research? there not the same. Yes, things have improved, however academics everywhere are improving. I would be curious to see where UCF ranked when Judy took over, obvious they have an equal ranking according to US news and world report, and have a better 6 year graduation rate.
  19. Athletics is clearly the front porch of any university with football as the main door and certainly the engine of growth. It’s rather difficult for alumni to rally behind the math and engineering departments no matter how much they accomplish or receive in grants, thus athletics serve as the window into a university which links alumni, students, and future prospects. USF is not an Ivy League caliber institution or even a liberal arts college with strong academics as our ultimate focus, it would be preposterous to think otherwise. While it is easy for us to blame Doug Woolard, Jim Leavit/Skip Holtz/Willie Taggart, the Big East Presidents, ESPN, and the overall state of college football in general, we do have a captain guiding this ship, and ultimately everything falls onto the captain’ shoulders. While it is also easy to say that hindsight is 20/20, the captain just like the CEO of a company is expected to have a vision for the future and predict what that landscape might look like in order to achieve their goals. Our captain is certainly trying to leave a legacy for herself, so the question becomes, how much culpability for the last several years with regards to our football program and conference situation do we assign to her? We can argue that she thought the Big East was going to get a big television contract, but on the flip side we can say the Big East was never on stable ground, it’s her job to have an assessment of the future. There are no excuses at her level. The CEO of a company who failed to see the impact of e-commerce 10 years ago is now out of a job, plain and simple What about the on-campus stadium situation. Should of there been a clear vision 10 years ago with a fundraising plan in place. Should have she predicted that virtually all schools in similar situations would be moving onto their own campuses with all the associated benefits. Is anybody in this country aside from traditional powers such as UCLA and USC making it work in an off campus venue? Clearly she could see this. UCF and FSU saw how much research dollars USF was getting and our medical school was a big reason why, so guess what they did, open up medical schools. Being a copycat is not a bad thing. Big East Implosion, Outside the Power 5, Limited Recruiting Budget (How proud are we now that we spend the least in the nation), Lack of On-Campus Stadium or even a clear vision for one. There were 14K people in an off campus NFL stadium at our last home game. Football is this university’s ultimate marketing weapon, nothing even compares in magnitude. As president of this university she cannot be happy with the current situation. Just winning is too simple of a solution, the problems run much deeper. It’s the equivalent of a store saying all we need to do is sell more product and all our problems will go away. Well, how are you going to sell more products? An investment needs to be made if we want to win. A vision needs to be in place. Winning begets winning but winning is ultimately a product of multiple facets. Recruiting is helped by facilities and atmosphere at the game, good coaches cost money, marketing and alumni relations open up more avenues for giving, it’s a cycle and the elements are not mutually exclusive. The question remains, how much culpability do we assign to Judy Genshaft as president of this University?
  20. I hope I am wrong but I do not see this as a recruiting or "not his players issue". Its coaching, blaming this on stupid recruits from another coach seems a little far fetched.................
  21. Another thing that nobody is really mentioning with regards to an OCS is the remaining lifespan of RJS. Looking at the current atmosphere it is not a stretch of the mind at all to think that the Glazers will be wanting a new stadium in the not so distant future. If you look at the age of stadiums around the league you will see that RJS is about middle of the pack with half the stadiums being newer and containing more modern amenities. I hope people aren't still clamining RJS is the nicest stadium in the league, I would recommend traveling and seeing some of these venues. While I am not saying RJS will be replaced in the next couple of seasons, it will be at some point sooner rather than later. Look at the Georgia Dome and Turner Field, of course that could happen here, who woulnd't think that from the Glazer's. Its also not a given that the stadium will remain in that Bucs traditional Dale Mabry location. The point of the matter is, this would represent a very good time to transition to our own on campus venue.
  22. ........but an off campus NFL stadium that is significantly too big for your program, and has color schemes that do not coordinate with your university looks 100 times worse from all aspects............
