However, one of three bowl games from last season still available to watch on ESPN3.com via the Xbox app is the BBVA Compass Bowl, SMU vs Pitt. For those that think the teams coming in don't deserve to be in the Big East, SMU dominates Pitt in this game. Yes, Pitt only had 4 full time coaches in the game, but SMU looked like the BCS team and Pitt, the non-BCS team. June Jones has done a great job with the SMU program. Watching this game, after the garbage that has happened, makes me feel glad that Pitt is departing, getting spanked by an incoming team so decisively. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_BBVA_Compass_Bowl

They are a team on the rise, but let's not overvalue the team as it stands. Pitt is on its 4th head coach in a year...

And that So Miss team beat #6 Houston and ended the year #19. Edited June 13, 2012 by slick1ru2

It's that they lost to them by 24 points. Then waltzed out the next week and lost by 30+ to tulsa. on top of that lost by 30+ to a very average Texas A&M squad and a very good Hoston team, They're a decent team, on the rise, but far from a quality BCS squad. Quality BCS teams don't lose by 30 points three times in a year.

And I wouldn't characterized last year's Texas A&M team as "very average". Not with the schedule they had and scores against ranked teams. 1 point loss to #7 Okl St, 4 point loss to #18 Ark, 3 point loss to #17 KSU in OT, 2 point loss to #25 Texas. Regardless of what you believe 7-6 Texas A&M to be, SMU lost by 30+ points three times.

And yeah, 7-6 with an "A" schedule is a good team. USF would have maybe had 1 win with that same schedule. Conversely, Texas A&M with USF's schedule most likely would have won the Big East. What an embarrasing game to watch, and to add insult to injury, I watched it in 3D at Muvico.
