Pack backer, could you recommend a Casino/hotel to stay in? I was thinking about staying at the Peppermill Casino, but see that it is pretty far away from the main strip and also the stadium.

I'll tell you what I know, but keep in mind I know a lot less about area hotels than a frequent visitor from out of town would.

True, the Peppermill is pretty far away from downtown and the university, but it's also the closest to a Vegas-style resort the area offers. It's undergone a lot of expansions and renovations in recent years, and is frequently named one of the best resorts of its kind in the country (including a recent four-diamond rating from AAA). If you're staying here for more than a couple of days and would like to explore more of the region than what a typical weekend trip might include (like maybe Lake Tahoe and Virginia City), its location is more advantageous. The same is true of the Atlantis, which is a little further up Virginia Street. At both places you'll find a great assortment of restaurants that are popular with locals and guests alike.

I'll pose the question on our message board and see what suggestions my colleagues have to offer.

I'd recommend staying at either the Atlantis or the Peppermill. But you'll get a good experience at almost any of the casinos in town. The only casino I wouldn't stay at is Circus Circus, unless you're bringing your kids with you. Most of the major casinos are located close to the freeway which puts you 15 minutes from anywhere in Reno....including the University, which is only a mile or so from downtown.

Thanks for the input pack backer and mugtang, I think I will go with the Peppermill based on your advice and the reviews I have read online. I plan on coming in for the most of the week before the game and it seems like it will have the most to do.

You can't go wrong there. If I remember correctly they were voted one of the top 10 casinos/hotels in America.

First let me thank you Pack Backer for the help in making our trip out there easier! Cpl questions for everyone.

I got the email today about the two hotels Grand Seirra and Harrah's Lake Tahoe. Is there a preference or what are the pros cons to both?

Next question flights look to be about 500 and change to Reno, Cheaper to San Fran and Vegas, Been to both many times, Wondering is that the best option or just spend the 500 to Reno and get no car?

Checked out rental cars for the week (to get from Vegas and or San Fran) looks like they are about 300 range. Really only need the car to get to Reno if we dont fly into Reno and if we want to see Tahoe.

Do you really need a car in Reno if your not going to far out or is there public transportation?

If I decide to do the Team hotel(Grand Seirra) is there enough to do , keep busy , see for 3 days?

Lastly would Vegas be the best option, spend a day or two there, than drive see Nevada take time to Reno and back.

Any info would be great. THANKS!

That's an option but Vegas is a 9 hour drive from Reno. There is some public transportation but nothing to get excited about. We do have plenty of taxis in this town. You can definitely find enough stuff to do locally for 3 days. I would recommend getting a car even if you come into Reno. The Lake is beautiful...especially that time of the year. You can go up to Virginia City and easily spend a day there. The Grand Sierra is it's own resort. If you're bring kids then that's a great option. They have an arcade, bowling, driving range, go carts and a bunch of other things.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
